I have just noticed that on a record on the 1939 census it showed a name change and wondered if anyone was able to explain what the letters meant. NR230 ADA 28/9/46 [Abrahams 'crossed out' Sidney B to become Allan Sidney https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?dbid=61596&h=7617219&indiv=try&o_vc=Record:OtherRecord&rhSource=2352 Not sure it will necessarily help with my research but wont know until I find out what it means:-) Many thanks Berry
Hi Berry I believe the NR230 is a code related to name change, not all of which were by deed poll, or registered deed poll But I would check the newspapers and in particular the London Gazette The ADA is a location code for Bethnal Green London, the date will either be the date of that name change (unlikely) but more likely the date at which the name was registered at their doctor The same 1939 NIR was used by the NHS up to 1991/2, hence the many post 1939 annotations, mostly for women re-registering after marriage as they took their husbands surname Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 30/12/2019 20:43, Berry Wraight via LONDON wrote: > I have just noticed that on a record on the 1939 census it showed a name change and wondered if anyone was able to explain what the letters meant. > > NR230 ADA 28/9/46 [Abrahams 'crossed out' Sidney B to become Allan Sidney > https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?dbid=61596&h=7617219&indiv=try&o_vc=Record:OtherRecord&rhSource=2352 > > Not sure it will necessarily help with my research but wont know until I find out what it means:-) > > Many thanks > > Berry
