I have tried Ancestry but find their on line records are very limited in this respect so can someone please tell me where I need to go in London to sight such records. The two locations I am interested in are Brazil and East Prussia. Thanks, Nick
Hi Nick I think you may be expecting to much I am afraid The overseas indexes to births, marriages and deaths are very far from complete, not all events were recorded and not all were passed back to the UK Both Ancestry & Findmypast have the overseas indexes This may help on the subject <https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/British_Births,_Marriages_and_Deaths_Overseas> As far as I know, those records held by the GRO are only available by way of purchasing a certificate, they are not open to public inspection Those at the LMA or National Archives may be Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 17/11/2019 00:29, Nicholas Wilson wrote: > I have tried Ancestry but find their on line records are very limited in this respect so can someone please tell me where I need to go in London to sight such records. > > The two locations I am interested in are Brazil and East Prussia. > > Thanks, > > Nick
Thank you Nivard, again, Ironically the father was the British Consul in both places so if they are missing I have only have him to blame! Luckily some of the events appear in the Family Bible in his own hand but are hard to decipher. I did find one entry in the Paris records of 1817 by making a visit to the LMA but that has been my only success so fat. I’ll keep trying the other sources you have given me Nick > On Nov 17, 2019, at 2:16 AM, Nivard Ovington <ovington.one@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi Nick > > I think you may be expecting to much I am afraid > > The overseas indexes to births, marriages and deaths are very far from complete, not all events were recorded and not all were passed back to the UK > > Both Ancestry & Findmypast have the overseas indexes > > This may help on the subject > > <https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/British_Births,_Marriages_and_Deaths_Overseas> > > As far as I know, those records held by the GRO are only available by way of purchasing a certificate, they are not open to public inspection > > Those at the LMA or National Archives may be > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > On 17/11/2019 00:29, Nicholas Wilson wrote: >> I have tried Ancestry but find their on line records are very limited in this respect so can someone please tell me where I need to go in London to sight such records. >> The two locations I am interested in are Brazil and East Prussia. >> Thanks, >> Nick > > _______________________________________________ > To Post to this list: > london@rootsweb.com > > Contact the Listowner: > Dee Pavey > london-owner@rootsweb.com > _______________________________________________ > Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref > Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/london@rootsweb.com > Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 > Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog > RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community
