    1. [LONDON] Elusive Birth Records - GALLI/GALLY/GALLEY
    2. Dennis Galley via
    3. I have been searching for 5 birth records from the same family between 1864 and 1883, but I haven't found any of them to date. On the 1871 census for Mile End, Old Town, the family consisted of John & Mary Ann GALLY, and children John, age 3, and Susan, age 7, both born @ Mile End, Old Town. On the 1881 census for Tower Hamlets, the family consisted of John & Mary Ann GULLEY, and children John, age 13, born @ Whitechapel, Mary Ann, age 9, and Ann, age 11 months, both born @ Mile End. On the 1891 census for Leyton, Essex, the family consisted of James & Mary A. GALLY, with children Hannah, age 10, born @ Bethnal Green and Sophia, age 8, born @ Leytonstone. The parents went under different names at different times. The father is Silvester John (or James) GALLY (or GALLI), drover. The mother is Mary Ann HARE (more likely AYRES) I placed an order with the GRO for the birth record of John GALLEY/GALLY or GALLI and named the parents, but they had no record of the birth. Is it possible for a family to have had 5 children, and none of them registered as being born? Any assistance with finding a GRO reference for any of them (other than John) would be most appreciated. 3. Hi Dennis In answer to your question, yes it is entirely possible for five children to be born and not registered, particularly pre 1874 when the onus changed from the registrar to the parent, guardian or householder and fines imposed There is a slim chance that they were registered under some mangled name variety, but I could accept one, two at a push but five to be mangled is unlikely I would have thought If you know the registration district they were residing in at the time of those births (hopefully the same one) write or email to them and ask them would they check, giving them the details you have, some will do that for you, others will want you to order Personally I suspect they will not find any but worth a try Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 14/07/2015 21:58, Dennis Galley via wrote: > I have been searching for 5 birth records from the same family between 1864 > and 1883, but I haven't found any of them to date.
