There is no sign of them in the 1881 census, though there is an Edward Barlow in Stockport (also a bricklayer employing 40 men) with another wife. It is tempting to believe that this is my g.grandfather and he has done a runner to Oz with Gertrude. About this time an Edward Barlow from Stockport was made bankrupt - maybe the same person?
