Hi New to the London List - but not to Rootsweb. I've tried to find information on Google, but with nil success, so was wondering if maybe some kind person here can help? I've found someone in the 1911 census, living at 338-366 Holloway Road in Islington, described as an "inmate". Does anybody know anything about this address? It wasn't a prison (which was the first thing I thought when I saw "inmate"). It can't have been a workhouse - most of the other "inmates" (pages and pages of them) were shop or office workers, the majority of them single. My guess is that it must have been some kind of hostel or boarding house. Does anyone know more, or know where I can find out more? Most of my family research has been centered around Lancashire so far, so I'm not very familiar with London resources. TIA Angelika

Angelika, 338-366 Holloway Road was Messrs. Jones Bros., Drapers. Many employees would have lived 'over the shop'.
