Hi Jenny Jones Brothers' department store was founded by William Jones, who had come to London in 1867 and worked as a draper's apprentice until he and his brother John opened a small shop in Holloway. Their building was enlarged several times and by the 1890s included warehouses, workshops, stabling for 50 horses, and accommodation for assistants above the shop. In 1927 the store became one of the Selfridge Provincial Stores, and in 1940, it was bought by the John Lewis Partnership From: 'Islington: Economic history', A History of the County of Middlesex: Volume 8: Islington and Stoke Newington parishes (1985), pp. 69-76.
