I have just read on Google that Kensal Green Cemetery opened in 1833. I am trying to find the burial/death of Jacob SMITH who died prior to 1833. He lived at 98 Mount Street, St. George Hanover Square. His wife, Honour SMITH was buried at All Souls Cemetery, Kensal Green in 1839, and his son George SMITH was buried there in 1847. How do I discover what other cemeteries existed in the area before 1833 and did All Souls take over from one of them? I know SMITH is like a needle in the proverbial haystack, but must try. Thank you. Glenys -- Glenys www.quietacre.net
Hi Glenys I take it Honour was the 80 year old who died in 1839 So assuming they were roughly the same age or he was older as was more often the case, he would be born around 1755ish Have you checked those burials on Ancestry ? Unfortunately neither the marriage or baptisms of his children mention an address Do you have any fix on the address before Honour died there in 1839? Is Jonah the brother who marries in 1816? not that it helps as again no address Could your Jacob have left a will perhaps ? Anne: Thank you!! I am particularly intrigued by the 1817 Chelsea St. Luke one and the 1818 of the same place. Will take a closer look. Why on earth can I not find these on Ancestry.com myself?? I search and search and have come up with a couple on the list below, but not these earlier ones. It's obvious my search skills are lacking. I have identified the Edmonton Smith's and they do not appear to be mine, so there's one down! I will go through the rest to see what comes of them. I do appreciate your time and help, very much. Or their holdings should be listed at A2A, use Westminster City Archives as the repository. You might also check with Kensal Green to see who else is in that grave, or if any tombstone records Jacob's name - even if not buried there - "Honour, who died...1839,beloved widow of the late Jacob Smith who died..." or some such if you are lucky. Kind regards, John Henley.
