    3. Hi Jan If, as I assume, you mean that you want to take your research further back, your first port of call should be Frederick and Alice's marriage. This was at St Mark, Myddleton Square on 5 April 1874. Ancestry have mangled their transcription of the parish register so the entry appears to relate to a Frederick Charles "Williams" and an "Alee" STEVENS. If you don't have access via the appropriate subscription, let me know and I will send you the image. Frederick names his father as Thomas WARREN, a railway servant. But I cannot see any likely family group in 1861, nor can I pick out Frederick in 1871 with any confidence. The birth of a Frederick Charles WARREN was registered in Q3 1851 in Bedford and this looks like a strong possibility and worth the 9.25GBP. This registration ties in quite neatly with the baptism of a Frederick Charles WARREN at St Mary's Bedford on 4 February 1855 (courtesy of FamilySearch), which gives a date of birth of 15 June 1851. However, the LDS transcription provides only the name of Sarah WARREN as mother (i.e. no father shown). This could be an error, or the father's name might have been illegible, but it could also point to an illegitimate birth (and a pretend "Thomas" at the marriage). Bedfordshire Archives may well be prepared to check for you free of charge, as you have the exact date and place. Alice was born on 18 January 1854 and baptised on 26 February of that year at St George the Martyr, Queen Square, daughter of Edward (which matches the information in the marriage register) and Louisa. Ancestry have, once again, let you down with their transcription of this event - it can be found under Alice "Stepens", though her siblings (of whom there are a fair few) are correctly transcribed for their baptisms. Hope this helps Caroline > > Trying to find out more about my great grandparents. >
