    3. I am hoping fellow listers might be able to suggest avenues I can explore. According to his Australian death certificate, my ancestor WILLIAM CRESWELL MARTIN (a miner) was born in London abt 1832 and emigrated to Australia abt 1852. He does not appear to have married in Australia but did raise a family here with RUTH PETTIT who emigrated separately from Chrishall, Essex and had previously married (in Australia) with 2 issue. William's death certificate states his parents as Bartholomew Martin (a cooper) and Bridget (maiden name not known). The issue of William and Ruth were Thomas William, Jane, Elizabeth, James Garraty, Elizabeth and Edward. I realise the name William Martin could be quite common, but had hopes that his middle name Creswell (or Cresswell) and his son's middle name Garraty? might provide some clues. And I query that his parents names Bartholomew and Bridget were not carried through? Any suggestions would be much appreciated :) Regards, Jane (Australia)

    3. Hi Jane, I've looked for William Martin and his parents Bartholomew and Bridget in the 1841 & 1851 censuses and in the London baptisms & deaths but can't find any trace of any of them. Also had a look for a William Cresswell but again, no luck. There were some William entries in the 1851 census - two who were servants and two who were in different workhouses in London but there is no certainty any of these are your particular one. Sorry not to have been of more help Anne On 25 Aug 2011, at 09:42, JANE FILIPOVSKI wrote: > I am hoping fellow listers might be able to suggest avenues I can > explore.
