Many thanks to Peter Gainsborough, Anne Peat and Christine Benson for their help. Unfortunately, we are no further ahead. So if you have a spare moment anyone.....please check the 1861 census for St. Bride, Mdx. for my James Chandler Hughes , mother Charlotte and granddaughter Ellen. We are looking at the last name for Ellen so that we might get her birth certificate and therefore a sibling for James C. I know that Ellen is not his child...
This won't help <g> but on James C's marriage cert-one of the witnesses is Sarah He???. Looking for a reasonable match for a Sarah Hughes with father Charles (carman) brings up: London, England, Marriages and Banns Name: John Hennem Occ:Porter Age: 35 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1837 Spouse Name: Sarah Hughes Spouse Age: 38 Record Type: Marriage Marriage Date: 16 May 1872 Parish: St Philip, Bethnal Green County: Middlesex Borough: Tower Hamlets Father Name: John Hennem Occ:Chemist Spouse Father Name: Charles Hughes Occ:Carman I have a feeling that John and Sarah may not have married before having children. Should we be looking for a Hughes birth? Just throwing this into the mixing bowl! Best, Maureen in NY
