Hi all Charles Westley HARVEY is one of life's great mysteries. My only certain sighting of him is on the 9th Jun 1878 when he marries Mary Ann HEDGCOCK in Dover. He's a private of the 10th Regiment currently stationed at the Western Heights in Dover, aged 28. Father is Robert HARVEY a Carpenter. I cannot find him on any census except for the 1861 in Suffolk which could possibly be him. He's described as born 1853, a nephew to Henry HARVEY (b abt 1793 Thorp Essex), and born Middlesex London. The males of this HARVEY line are all carpenters or joiners, so it's a strong likelyhood that this is my Charles. I think I have tracked his father on the 41c, 51c, and 71c, but at no time is Charles with him. I cannot track his birth/baptism details, nor what happened to him after his marriage. All I know is that he possibly died by 1884 when Mary remarried to a William GAMMON. Although she described herself as a spinster this is her as the 1891c has as her son by Charles, James W HARVEY. What I'm hoping for is because of his birth in London Middlesex that another researcher could be lurking. I have tried every conceivable search mechanism I know of and getting no-where. I will be posting to the Essex and Suffolk lists in the hope of catching some info there. Cheers Andy
Ah! Have stumbled over a listing back in 1997 that he might have been a deserter!
