    3. There are plenty of William Bensons on the National Archives site. He 'may' be one of those. Otherwise you can also try the Times Digital Archives, and the London Gazette.     3. Hi Andy, Thanks for that. There are certainly plenty of William Benson's. I couldn't find anything in the National Archives or the London Gazette but there are so many entries in the Gazette I could not look through them all. It may be useful at a later date. Since you have to subscribe to get the Times archive I do not see any point at present.
