I browsed a few random London directories, 1812-1839. > At the time of his death in 1839, WILLIAM COWDRY was living at 40, the > Strand. His will was proved at London on 5th July 1839. His death at 40 Strand is slightly puzzling, as the brush business seems to have been at that address earlier in the century, e.g. circa 1821, but was at 270 and 271 Strand by 1839. In a 1838 directory, four businesses were listed at 40 Strand, but not a brush in sight. Earlier Cowdry was also at 407 Strand, which would have been at the west end of the Strand, getting on towards Charing Cross.
