    3. Following on from Ron's posts, Helen, I'd been going to suggest you try the 1911, but initially hadn't seen her in the index. Great that Ron could point you in the right direction. It might be well worth your while to look at the 1911 yourself, to find out more about the family. If Emily is not on her own in Kensington, there may be children recorded with her who could lead you to an executor or beneficiary mentioned in the probate index in 1931. NB My note on a particularly useful aspect to the 1911 census: widows, women who remarried and women whose husbands were absent on census night were not, I think, required to record how long they had been married or how many children had been born within that marriage, just who was in the house at the time. However, I've found that many parents still did so anyway on the 1911, even knowing the information would be crossed out later, sometimes even by themselves. I don't think many of them did this by mistake. Same for the names of children who had already died. It may have been irrelevant for the census, but it's as though the families understandably felt it was an incomplete record of their lives, so they 'commemorated' the children by recording their existence on the census. My own great grandmother was widowed once, left by her second husband and had been on her own for years by 1911, but it didn't stop her recording 'given birth to 12 children in 49 years of marriage, eight living and four deceased'. Good for her! And thanks for your mail, Helen. I hope you find out more about Emily, her husband and family. Sounds very interesting. This definitely sounds like a case of 'enjoy the trail' :-) Katie -----Oorspronkelijk bericht---Van: london-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:london-bounces@rootsweb.com] Namens Ron Lankshear Verzonden: zondag 1 mei 2011 11:43 Aan: Helen Carter CC: LONDON@rootsweb.com Onderwerp: Re: [LON] 1891 - 1901 Census help needed I think Katie has a good point I just cannot see them in any census and I looked for any surname Emily born c1857-61 married to a Leo*. Missing in 2 census is strange. I see 1931 death in Sussex with probate - which says widow leaving GBP 3033
