Often it depends on which county you are concentrating but noticing you are sending this to the London site I would recommend ancestry for the reason that they have so many London parish records available (stretches out to Surrey as well) and the actual records, which can tell you so much more - when they loaded these records I broke down so many brick walls - and they do have 1841 thru 1901 censuses - other records I have found invaluable are the wills and probate records.
