Hi Nan, At least three registers of combined marriages/banns from St Olave Bermondsey seem to be missing from Ancestry's collection, covering the period 1754-1772. These three registers do survive at LMA (callmarks P71/OLA/021, 022 and 023). >From the earlier database (1538-1812), the composite register of baptisms, marriages and burials P71/OLA/014 also seems to be missing, covering the period 1747-1777. I believe some of the St Olave registers are in poor condition, so perhaps they were not available for filming by Ancestry? Alternatively, there's a chance they've been filmed but are labelled wrongly in the database. You might want to try looking for them under other Bermondsey parishes. You could also try other St Olave parishes, such as St Olave Hart Street and St Olave Jewry (both in the City of London). Sorry this doesn't help much. Someone else may know more. Otherwise, it may be more productive to contact LMA than Ancestry! HTH Judy London, UK -----Original Message----- From: london-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:london-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of NanDowling@aol.com I have a query regarding the London records on Ancestry , and i should state straight away that i have been in contact with them but as yet to no avail . Basically the problem is a missing segment of approx 29 yrs for the parish records of St Olave's Bermondsey between the years 1747 - 1776 . I have searched for a marriage event which is known to have taken place in 1760 at St Olave's in the index - London - Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921" but St Olave in this index only begins at 1777 onwards . The wider index - London - Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 - actually shows a break in all St Olave parish records for the era 1748-1776 . It would seem there is abt 29 years of Bap/Marriage/Burial records missing for this parish within these London collections on Ancestry . It may be relevant to also point out that in the Bap's,Marr's & Burials collection , the St Olave records are all in book form , whereas when the marriage records start up again in the 1754-1921 collection they are in the usual "marriage document " format showing name's /date/witness names etc . Ancestry have told me they are unaware of any missing records from their LMA collection but i am wondering if anyone onlist has any knowledge of this Parish and it's records and why there is this apparent gap ?
