I would like to know if (the)Strand in London and Strand on the Green are the same? Thank you, Barbara Australia
Hello Barbara, I think that Strand of the Green would be in the Chiswick area of West London. Probably Middlesex in the 19th century. Whereas 'The Strand' is indeed in Central London, often St Martin in the Fields parish, adjacent to Trafalgar Square. It has quite a history and you'll find more information and photos on various sites including Wikipedia. A delightful spot near Kew and Chiswick, apparently falling under 'Hounslow' in Greater London for administrative purposes these days. My pleasant memories of it include several lovely riverside pubs... Oh to be in England, now that April's there... Decidely Not Strand is a very main thorougfare running in central London near to Charing Cross station. It known in main verses "I was walking along the Strand one day" Strand on the Green is a road and a walkway along the bank of the Thames in Chiswick. (I used to live in Riverview Grove at one end of Strand on the Green.) It is just across the River from The National Archives at Kew. A lovely spot with beautiful old houses and nice pubs and most pleasant to stand on the river bank with a glass in hand. Both can be found at http://maps.google.com/ If you are interested in Strand of the Green let me know Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/ On 2011-05-01 3:57 PM, Barbara Hunt wrote: > I would like to know if (the)Strand in London and Strand on the Green are > the same? > >
