Hello again, I'm stumped on a man who marries into my DEVERILL family in 1897, marrying Kate Sara DEVERILL at St Martin in the Fields. His name is Frederick Gaughan BURNETT, according to several sources, and he is born in 1871 in Croydon. I haven't found a plausible birth record for him, but on his marriage cert he claims that his father is Frederick BURNETT, "Indian Commissioner," and that he himself is a "Soldier, RHA." Someone advised me that RHA is likely Royal Horse Artillery. Are there any records for them that I could check to see if he shows up? I've checked the military records on Ancestry and Findmypast but found nothing conclusive. I've googled and come across interesting regiment histories etc, but nothing specifically regarding the soldiers who served with them. Frederick is a railway porter in 1901, and a commercial salesman in 1911 and again in 1914 when he marries Kathleen Maud BELL. He counts himself a bachelor, but his wife Kate is still alive, and seven years later she marries the man who was boarding with them in 1911, Arthur STEGGALS, a policeman. Normally I would have discounted the marriage record of Frederick and Kathleen, because Frederick Gaughan BURNETT gives his father's name this time as William Gaughan BURNETT, and his occupation as "knight." But the clincher here was the signature. Frederick's signature is quite unusual, and the three instances of it (his marriage cert to Kate, as a witness at one of Kate's relatives' wedding, and this marriage in 1914) are identical. My questions, if you're still with me, are: where should I look to try to find anything on a Frederick/William Gaughan BURNETT, Indian Commissioner/Knight? Where might I find information on soldiers with the Royal Horse Artillery circa 1897? Where might I find out if Kate and Frederick divorced? As I said, I've searched Ancestry and Findmypast and googled, but have come up empty. Thanks as always for your help and advice, Tracy in Ontario, Canada
