    3. George is in 1793 Universal directory at 85 Whitechapel and then I cannot see him in 1805 Holden. So you found him mentioned in 1802 so perhaps he died soon after or retired....... I looked at Churches in Tower Hamlets but nothing like him The 1845 baptisms are for 3 children first Samuel born 1839. I could not match any with GRO index. I cannot find family anywhere in 1841 Address for baptism Rahere Street is on http://yourarchives.nationalarchives.gov.uk as HO 107/667 book 1 folio 42-58 and scanning around that does not show them What then happens to them? I did not find in later census So could they be newly arrived in London hence the baptisms. Presumably Samuel married Mary prior to 1839 but I think that makes him too young to be George's son. There is a marriage in 1838 in St Germans Cornwall and one of 4 possible spouses is a Mary Snell Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/ On 2011-06-07 2:41 AM, user917826@aol.com wrote: > Hello, > > I am new to the list. I have been investigating various Rawlins Watchmakers in search of the family of my 3 great grandfather, Samuel Rawlins, who was identified as a watch finisher on the baptismal records for his children in 1845 at St. Barnabas Finsbury in Middlesex. > > I have come across a George Rawlins of Whitechapel who took on several apprentices in the 1770s and early 1780s. I have a copy of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World by Brian Loomes who also notes a George Spencer Rawlins, in London in 1802. I would love to know where I might look for parish records. I would appreciate any ideas of how to do more research on this family. > > Thanks, > > Bev W
