    3. This ancestor of ours is living with his wife Ann at 46 Grosvenor Street, Hanover Square on 1851 census.   occupation "IN CHARGE OF HOUSE" would this be a caretaker? in 1841 he was a Publican. How could I find who owned this house in 1851 please?? He is not on 1861 census, so maybe the William Golding who died 1859 district  St. Georges Hanover Square. I have sent for DC Eve

    3. Hi Eve First thing to say is the address is 42 Grosvenor street (not 46) Looking at the entry and age of William I would say he was a caretaker as you suggest In 1843 there is an entry in the Kentish Independent May 6th 1843 under insolvents Adjourned (many other names) William Robert Poole GOLDING, Little Guildford street, Russell square, coffee housekeeper Also in the Bells New Weekly Messenger 7th May 1843 In the same publication (Bells) March 12 1843 Insolvent Debtors Petitions Wednesday the 8th day of March 1843 (on their own petitions) William Robert Poole GOLDING, Little guildford street, Russell square, coffee housekeeper (and many others) Morning Post May 25 1843 Insolvent Debtors Court, Portugal Street Original Unopposed :- William R P GOLDING Public Ledger and Daily Advertiser June 1 1843 Insolvent Debtors Court Portugal street - Sit at Ten Adjourned Hearing - William R P GOLDING All of which lends weight to his not having much in the way of assets in 1851 In 1851 he is 63 ie born 1788 In 1859 Name: William Golding Birth Date: abt 1787 Event Type: Burial Death Date: abt 1859 Death Age: 72 Burial Date: 7 Dec 1859 Burial Place: Hackney, Middlesex, England Piece Title: Piece 44-2: Hackney, Victoria Park Cemetery: Burials. Vol 3 Indexed, 1857-1859 I didn't find an electoral roll or other record for that address to suggest who owned it Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 07/02/2016 23:02, Eve Ferguson via wrote: > This ancestor of ours is living with his wife Ann at 46 Grosvenor Street, Hanover Square on 1851 census. occupation "IN CHARGE OF HOUSE" > would this be a caretaker? in 1841 he was a Publican.
