The key may be in the marriage at Hastings. Reasons may be such as 1) Some doubt about first marriage 2) First Marriage in Register Office 3) First marriage in non-Anglican church (perhaps disparity of denomination between parties) 4) Family members unable to attend first wedding. Hi everyone, An oddity here in my research... According to marriage indexes, Thomas Lionel Collingwood CHOWN married Edith Hannah CROFTS in the Jan-Mar quarter of 1896 at Hastings. There is also a marriage index in the Jul-Sept quarter of 1896 between Thomas Lionel collingwood CHOWN and Edith Hannah CROFTS in the St George Hanover Square registration district. There is a parish record from St Saviour's, St George's Square, Pimlico) of this marriage on 15 July 1896. Does anyone have any ideas why they appear to have tied the knot twice? Best wishes, Jon
A big ask....searching for info re. Thomas Hewitt born London abt 1808....not sure when he came to Australia..whether a convict or free. Found a death in Dalby Queensland Aust....1876...for him and that states he was born London...Any help will be appreciated.....Regards....Middy
Would seem they just avoided registration. But hard to avoid the census enumerators so they were counted except I did not find 1901. But did see 1911 with Sophia now Mrs Wyman and still born Leytonstone c1883. Mother as just Mary Galli is with her in 1911. I looked through West Ham births c1883 for fore name Sop* but no surnames looking anything like Galley etc Just in passing so if not seen you can rule out, I saw this red herring Birth Sophia Galley 1882 Jul-Aug-Sep Newmarket 3b 511 But sadly Death Sophia Galley 1883 Jan-Feb-Mar Age at Death: 0 Newmarket 3b 358 -- Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/
Herbert Southby VOWLES was born 1883 in London He married Eva Asaph M 1906 Looking to see what children they had Can someone please lookup the 1911 Census Helen
Hi Dennis In answer to your question, yes it is entirely possible for five children to be born and not registered, particularly pre 1874 when the onus changed from the registrar to the parent, guardian or householder and fines imposed There is a slim chance that they were registered under some mangled name variety, but I could accept one, two at a push but five to be mangled is unlikely I would have thought If you know the registration district they were residing in at the time of those births (hopefully the same one) write or email to them and ask them would they check, giving them the details you have, some will do that for you, others will want you to order Personally I suspect they will not find any but worth a try Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 14/07/2015 21:58, Dennis Galley via wrote: > I have been searching for 5 birth records from the same family between 1864 > and 1883, but I haven't found any of them to date. I have been searching for 5 birth records from the same family between 1864 and 1883, but I haven't found any of them to date. On the 1871 census for Mile End, Old Town, the family consisted of John & Mary Ann GALLY, and children John, age 3, and Susan, age 7, both born @ Mile End, Old Town. On the 1881 census for Tower Hamlets, the family consisted of John & Mary Ann GULLEY, and children John, age 13, born @ Whitechapel, Mary Ann, age 9, and Ann, age 11 months, both born @ Mile End. On the 1891 census for Leyton, Essex, the family consisted of James & Mary A. GALLY, with children Hannah, age 10, born @ Bethnal Green and Sophia, age 8, born @ Leytonstone. The parents went under different names at different times. The father is Silvester John (or James) GALLY (or GALLI), drover. The mother is Mary Ann HARE (more likely AYRES) I placed an order with the GRO for the birth record of John GALLEY/GALLY or GALLI and named the parents, but they had no record of the birth. Is it possible for a family to have had 5 children, and none of them registered as being born? Any assistance with finding a GRO reference for any of them (other than John) would be most appreciated. Dennis Galley
Hi Jon, Unfortunately it does not appear the marriage is there (except GRO ref).
