Hello All I am glad to see Rootsweb up again. I am working on a Eva Fanny Barlow born 29/10/1897 Fulham, daughter of Frederick Barlow and Clara Elizabeth Nicolson I have just found her on a Captain Marryatts school admissions list of 1901 Was this a residential School or just a day school. Her Father died in 1903, her Brothers were then sent to a residentional School in Oxfordshire. Does anyone know how to find the Discharge dates of this Captain Marryats school please?? Eva Fanny and her Mother Clara Elizabeth (Nicolson) Barlow are no where to be found in 1911 Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Eve Ferguson
Eve, Eva Fanny is recorded at Captain Marryatts school in 1901 yet she is with her parents and brothers at 57 Claybrooke Road, Fulham so I would think it was a day school. I am researching Mrs. Philip Newman, Goldsmith and Court Jeweller in London during the period 1860 to 1940. The shop moved a couple of times and I am trying to confirm what dates I can find. The addresses involved and the dates I currently have are: 18 Clifford Street, 1885 - 1899 10 Savile Row, 1899 - 1927 68 Duke Street, 1927 - 1940 Anyone able to steer me to a source? Thanks Phil
Hello all I am looking of more information about my 3xgreat-grandmother Amelia EASTERBY who married Thomas WAKEFIELD on March 24 1829 at St Mary Bow. The marriage was by Banns, both were single and ''of this parish''. One of the witnesses was a Mary EASTERBY (sometimes transcribed as Easterly but I believe it to be Easterby) probably a sister. Amelia died in Lambeth on June 18 1839, age 30 which puts her birth at around 1809 but I have not been able to find a birth record for Amelia anywhere. From a distance (Australia) it is hard to pinpoint where she might have lived to be within the Bow parish. Although ''of this parish'' she may not have been born there although I believe she might have been. Can anyone with local knowledge suggest which other parishes are nearby this area? Can anyone tell me if all the parishes in this area are on Family Search or are there others on Family Search film that I could look at? I believe Amelia's mother's name was probably Ann. Her four daughters were Mary Ann, Amelia, Ann and Emma. She had a son, Thomas. Mary Ann died age 11 and Emma died in infancy in 1839. Regards, Elissa Kester
Hello Elissa I see from the census records that Amelia's husband Thomas was definitely born in the City of London so the two families may have lived close to each other. A very tenuous suggestion and you may have already checked this but if Mary was Amelia's sister there is a chance she married later and if so this might also be in the area and late enough for civil registration. That being said I can only find one possibility: Mary Ann Easterby marr Apr-Jun 1845 City of London vol 2 page 141 She is actually listed twice as Easterby and Easterly. However It would have been quite a late marriage for her (presumably in her 30s) so very likely has no connection at all. Hi Iris I have had a look but didn't find anything useful unfortunately The nearest was a Mark WELSH 45 an Ag Lab in Cobham Kent in 1841 not born in County , he appears to die in 1860 same place In 1851 he is enumerated as Mark WELCH a visitor widower aged 54 Ag Lab born Essex Thornden? Hi Elissa If you go to http://maps.familysearch.org/ Enter St Mary Bow and search Select the one option and it will present you with a map showing the parishes adjoining it Or select Options and then list contiguous parishes However parishes were so close together she could be from anywhere or further afield Did you find the Mary in a census to give a clue of where she and perhaps Amelia were born? You would have to check each parish one by one but doubt all PRs have survived for all parishes I did a quick search on Ancestry & findmypast but did not find mention of her, the marriage & burial are on Ancestry Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 13/02/2016 15:48, Elissa Kester via wrote: > Hello all > > I am looking of more information about my 3xgreat-grandmother Amelia > EASTERBY who married Thomas WAKEFIELD on March 24 1829 at St Mary > Bow. Hi Does anyone know how to access the records for this institution? 2 sisters are on the 1881 census resident here and they were 'shipped' to Canada in 1882 - later to be known as 'Home Children'. I'm looking to find their parents names and, ideally, their date of birth. Thank you Sheila Beer
Hi I am writing to provide an update on the 1871 Surrey census project. Two further pieces have been uploaded to the on line database and are now searchable for free on the main freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk These are pieces *RG10/683 Brixton * which covers part of Lambeth *RG10/712 Wandsworth *which covers part of Wandsworth This means that there are now 67,452 (8.4%) 1871 Surrey census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have kindly given up their free time to assist with the project without their help this information would not be available. We have a long way to go but the more volunteers we get the quicker the information will become available. If you would like to help with making more information available please contact me on [email protected] Hope this helps you in your research. -- Bev Howlett FreeCen Co-Ordinator Norfolk 1861,1871,1891 Cambridge 1891 Surrey 1871,1891 Find Out How To Help http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bevsnorfolkinfo/ http://www.freecen.org.uk
Hi Eve First thing to say is the address is 42 Grosvenor street (not 46) Looking at the entry and age of William I would say he was a caretaker as you suggest In 1843 there is an entry in the Kentish Independent May 6th 1843 under insolvents Adjourned (many other names) William Robert Poole GOLDING, Little Guildford street, Russell square, coffee housekeeper Also in the Bells New Weekly Messenger 7th May 1843 In the same publication (Bells) March 12 1843 Insolvent Debtors Petitions Wednesday the 8th day of March 1843 (on their own petitions) William Robert Poole GOLDING, Little guildford street, Russell square, coffee housekeeper (and many others) Morning Post May 25 1843 Insolvent Debtors Court, Portugal Street Original Unopposed :- William R P GOLDING Public Ledger and Daily Advertiser June 1 1843 Insolvent Debtors Court Portugal street - Sit at Ten Adjourned Hearing - William R P GOLDING All of which lends weight to his not having much in the way of assets in 1851 In 1851 he is 63 ie born 1788 In 1859 Name: William Golding Birth Date: abt 1787 Event Type: Burial Death Date: abt 1859 Death Age: 72 Burial Date: 7 Dec 1859 Burial Place: Hackney, Middlesex, England Piece Title: Piece 44-2: Hackney, Victoria Park Cemetery: Burials. This ancestor of ours is living with his wife Ann at 46 Grosvenor Street, Hanover Square on 1851 census. occupation "IN CHARGE OF HOUSE" would this be a caretaker? in 1841 he was a Publican. How could I find who owned this house in 1851 please?? He is not on 1861 census, so maybe the William Golding who died 1859 district St. Georges Hanover Square. I have sent for DC Eve
I think parts of Berwick St. are missing from the 1841 Census. You may be able to get his 1841 address from rate books, which are indexed on-line at FMP, and/or land tax returns (via Ancestry). Kind regards, John
I have been at a loss to find James Watson in the 1841 Census. The 1842 trade index shows that he lived at 82 Berwick St. Soho as a brush maker. The 1851 census shows his wife Mary Ann (b1787) as widow with her son Robert B (b1830) living on a street over, with her now being a brush maker. Looking thru the 1841 Census sheets I have only been able to find Berwick St. up to house number 50. At one time the UK National Archives listed each street in the UK by district and where to find them on the census sheet. Sadly this link is now broken. As well they had listed what census sheets had been lost, and this as well does not seem to be available. Any help in finding the current National Archives links or James Watson in the 1841 Census would be greatly appreciated. With thanks,Scott BCanada
