I am trying to find the birth record for my 3rd Great Grandfather William Coventon. On the 1851 Census it states that he was born in Edmonton, Middlesex in 1876.In 1851 he is living in Lympstone in Devon and is married to Mary, nee Pasmore. I have looked at the records on Ancestry and Family Search with no luck. Can anyone help? Lynn
Good Morning Rosemary, Can't help you most of my Simmonds family came from Kent England, I don't think we have a connection. Janet
Hello from Sunny Ontario I am working on a new Family and have a question. CATHERINE SIMMONDS shows on 1841 of Christ Church Southwark no occupation and no Simmonds family with her but yes to born in Surrey. 1851 of Hadley Berks. that she was born in Surrey WALWORTH 1817 and in 1861 still in Hadley, born in Surrey Newington. I have searched everywhere for her Birth/Baptism in 1817 ish but no luck Her Father was William Simmonds gone by 1841 and her Mother also Catherine born 1792 ish Westerham Kent (Cannot find that either.) although she died 1864 district Camberwell which may have been Lewisham? as the later generation appear there. Any Suggestions please??? I know I am addressing this to LONDON and not Surrey but I always find more suggestions and help from this group. Eve Ferguson (Canada Now)
Have you checked the baptismal registers for the London Church of England Births and Baptisms on Ancestry.co.uk? These include IIRC parts of Surrey. Valerie How old were the children left behind? Many immigration schemes had fairly strict criteria as to ages/number of children per couple. I see some of the children would have been old enough to go into service/ get a job of some description by 1889. In 1881 they are listed with only 4 children [with a gap where some could be missing] Judy > Hi List, > > Could some kind person help me understand what could have happened to some > of my ancestor?s children. Hi List, Could some kind person help me understand what could have happened to some of my ancestor’s children. William and Emily Robinson emigrated to Argentina in 1888/9 taking 7 of their 12 children with them. In a Argentine Herald article in 1938 she said that she had left 5 children behind in England. From what I can gather they had assisted passage out there on German Steamer and maybe they were only allowed to take so many of the family. Maybe they thought they would make money in Argentina to then bring the rest of the family out later. Unfortunately William died 5 years after arriving in Buenos Aires. My question is what would they have done with the 5 children left behind, I cannot find them living with relatives and wondered would they have been put into a workhouse or some sort of home? Unfortunately I do not know any first names of these children. Someone may have some ideas. Their last address in 1881 was : 2 St. Agatha Square, Shoreditch, Middlesex. Many thanks Valerie Compton.

Hi ?? They are indeed spam, the usual reason is that a subscribers email account has been hacked and is sending spam via their account Rootsweb filters out what it can but these have nothing in them to trigger the filters If you receive any similar mails the best course of action is to delete them, don't report as spam or you may have Rootsweb blacklisted for no good reason Also wise not to repeat the spam back to the list as its just doing their insidious work for them If in doubt email admin [email protected] Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 22/06/2016 23:22, Russell and Jeanette via wrote: > Hello, I have received two suspicious emails from [email protected] in > the past 2 days. Hello, I have received two suspicious emails from [email protected] in the past 2 days. The sender wants the receiver to click on a link. Since sending my message I've looked at the original record and it actually says "Bermondsey St". Ruth, It's actually transcribed as Benn. (with a full point), so it's probably a mistranscription of Berm. (for Bermondsey Street). Just checked Ancestry, and it is indeed Bermondsey Street. They have him under WELLER, but it's written WALLER. HTH Judy London, UK -----Original Message----- Find My Past has a transcription of a burial of Charles Waller, buried "in Bermondsey" on 30 April 1848. His abode is given as Benn Street. Does anyone know the location of Benn Street in Bermondsey? The only one that shows on Google Maps is in the East End.
Find My Past has a transcription of a burial of Charles Waller, buried "in Bermondsey" on 30 April 1848. His abode is given as Benn Street. Does anyone know the location of Benn Street in Bermondsey? The only one that shows on Google Maps is in the East End. Many thanks Ruth
Hi, I am wondering if someone may be able to explain a detail on a Marriage Certificate I have for 1881. The Marriage took place at the Register Office in Whitechapel The Grooms name is shown as Samuel Levy but at the bottom where it says "The marriage was solemnized between us the Groom has signed his surname as Levey. Above the "e" is the number 25. On the right hand side is written the words Twenty Five and the initials W. E. (the Registrar was a W Edwards) My question is which is the correct spelling? Levey as written by the Groom or Levy which appears above. Thank you. Brian
Hi Ann (I am not admin to London or the other lists you posted to but am admin on other lists) The rootsweb lists *all* take plain text only So if you are sending in other than plain text (such as rich text) rootswebs mailman software will attempt to strip out the formatting, it may fail on occasion and reject the post or it may strip it out and post the remainder If you send in rich text (ie to enable large text or pretty fonts) you risk the post not getting through and for little use as no one will know unless also sent direct and not via the list You have also cross posted to several lists which is not a good idea as people will only get it if subscribed to one of those lists but may reply to all, thereby creating more work for admins as each will create a bounced mail Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 06/06/2016 10:59, Anndriscoll via wrote: > Can Admin please tell me if this text is ok to send a message to the list? > I am having a problem with it on another list and would like > clarification if possible as I have been using same size text for about 20 Rootsweb > lists for 15+ years without any problems. > > Many thanks > > Ann
Can Admin please tell me if this text is ok to send a message to the list? I am having a problem with it on another list and would like clarification if possible as I have been using same size text for about 20 Rootsweb lists for 15+ years without any problems. Many thanks Ann
Hi List I have been hunting for the 1861 census recording this lady and her family for a little while but a bit stumped. Wonder if anyone else could shed any light. Working backwards *1881* She is in West Ham, 8 Eton Terrace in the same house as George and Mary Ann Anthoney who I think are probably her parents. She is married to George [Booth] Cross [1843 Cheshire] and has two children George and Fanny. I suspect Elizabeth Esler shown in the same house, is her elder sister as she is recorded as Elizabeth Jane Anthoney in the marriage registration. *1874 *Found a marriage to George [Booth] Cross dated 12 July in St Thomas Stepney where she is recorded as 17. Only been able to see a transcription of this so not sure what else might be gleaned from the actual record. *1871* I have found 2 census records, the first which I feel confident is the right Rebecca the second I think may perhaps be a mistake. Thoughts on that would be very welcome. 1. As a servant aged 15 [born 1856 Poplar] in the Gowland Household 2. As a daughter to George and Mary Anthony but born 1863 Bromley Middx. [which would only make her 11 in an 1874 marriage] There was a Maria born 1864 so might it in fact have been her? *1857* There is a birth registration for Rebecca Anthoney Q3 Poplar but I have been unable to find a parish record for her or any other sibling born between 1853 and 1864 (at least Elizabeth 1854 and John 1855) *1853* Wedding registration of George Anthoney [possibly George Taylor Anthony 4/4/1827 Chesterfield] to Mary Ann Fox nee Hanson. St Anne, Limehouse None of the above maybe any help of course, but I would particularly like to view the 1861 census as hopefully this will confirm the children born between 1853 to 1861. Many thanks for any help forthcoming on this. Berry
