Ellen Seacomb is recorded in the 1871 census of Acton, as a pupil in Horn Lane. The census does not provide the name of the establishment. Does SKS know of a school, headed by Mary Robinson? The census may be found at RG10/1322 fol.141 p.16 Many thanks Ruth

Have two queries at present: How can I find which service my Mother's served in? I think 3 of the boys were in the Army and one was in the Air Force, one Aunt was in the WAF and I'm not sure about the last one. My Mother was in the QAIMNS as a Sister and served in the Middle East and Italy. Before that she was either at St Thomas or St Giles (she nursed at both hospitals) then after she demobbed she did her Midwifrey, (sp?) and was a District Nurse (or whatever they were called) in the Dulwich/Elephant and Castle area, till she emigrated to NZ in 1950. Appreciate any tips. Thank you Jan

Hello again Eileen, I've checked and Google Earth had misdirected me. Edmonton is to the NE of Islington in London, not many miles. Cheers, John

Hi Eileen I suspect you will know by now the approximate distance between the two places mentioned Although in terms of mileage its not far its a long way in London terms as its so densely populated But it wouldn't discount a person coming from one place and marrying or whatever in the other which I assume is the reason for asking London being so densely populated, people often didn't go far but could have of course May I ask why you were asking the question? Like most of London, Islington is surrounded. Highbury, City of London via City Road (pop goes the weasel), Finsbury, Mount Pleasant, Bloomsbury, Kings Cross. In Londonese terms, having lived in Finsbury/Clerkenwell for much of my youth, Edmonton would not be classed as 'local'. Eileen, If you go to http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/churches you can enter any place in England and it shows you the distance from any other place. You can change the mileage search area. Then use 'Find'. You can also look at it on google map. Wonderful sight. In the mins of most people Walworth and Newington can be used interchangably. CHeck Familysearch.org and expect the event to be listed Walworth, Newington or even Southwark.
