    1. [LON] Victorian London Photographers
    2. LORI ADKINS
    3. Hello List, My ancestors lived in the Islington and Finsbury areas of London from the 1840's on. Would anyone know how I could get a list of Victorian Photograghers for London from 1840 up to about 1900. I have bought old photographs off Ebay UK with families names on the back and was hoping to watch for certain photographers CDV from around that above mentioned area. Thank you. Kind Regards Lori

    3. Hello Everyone, I am trying to find some people who may have returned to the UK from Canada after 1975 to the present day. Does anyone know how I can access these records.....of course it would probably be by air rather than sea. I am situated in Australia and rely on online sources, but I cannot find anything relating to current Passenger listings.... Any help would be very much appreciated, Cheers, Robyn N.S.W.

    1. [LON] OLIVER families
    2. Leonie Oliver
    3. Hi all It's now over 6 years since I last asked about this family so thought it was time to try again. Does anyone have any links to Samuel OLIVER and Sarah Eleanor ANSLOW, married 1816 Hackney, then made their home in and around Bethnal Green? Their son Samuel married Sarah COMBS in 1839 and this is the line I am following. However, I would be happy to hear from any other OLIVER researchers who had family in that area in the 19th century. The above Samuel OLIVER was the son of Richard OLIVER and Susannah BUTFOY. Cheers Leonie Oliver NSW

    2. Val Messer
    3. Hello Listers For many years I have been trying to locate the marriage and the date of death and/or burial of my late husband's 3g grandfather, ROBERT HELMORE. Robert Helmore was born in Devon and baptised at Exminster on 17 Sep 1749. I have found a possible reference to him on Ancestry in Apprenticeship Indentures and he MAY have been a 'whitebread baker.' He left Devon possibly after 1775 when he was a witness at a marriage and was in London in 1783 when he was again a witness to a marriage in St Marylebone. His own children were baptised at St George Hanover Square between ca 1785 and 11 Mar 1788, the last one, George Henry, being my late husband's ancestor. His wife's name was Sarah but I have found no record of a marriage either in Devon or at St George, Hanover Square. Sarah died in 1824 and was buried at Kingston, Surrey on 24 Aug 1824, recorded as a widow. Robert was not recorded in Kingston burial records on the LDS film that I had hired. The HELMORE family seemed to spend time in Surrey and some of George Henry's children were baptised at Petersham, although family place of residence was recorded as London, where George was a coal merchant. I have a sub to Ancestry and have searched the London records to no avail. Any suggestions to help me make a small dint in my brick wall would be gratefully received. 1. [LON] John Willcox and Rebecca Price
    2. Simon Martin
    3. Hi All, I've found out the following: John Willcox was born 1850. Could this be our John Thomas Willcox, or another John Willcox? 1851 Census John is living with William & Rebecca Price and their 2 daughters, Sarah & Amelia. John is down as aged 1 and listed as nephew. They are living at 4 Mellicks Place. Why does that address ring a bell? 1861 Census Again he's still with William & Rebecca, living at 25 Mellicks Place and listed as relation. 1871 Census Still with William & Rebecca at 25 Mellicks Place but this time he's back to nephew, working as a carman. 1901 Census There's no sign of John living with Rebecca Price. William must have passed away as Rebecca is listed as Widow, but has her daughter Elizabeth Baker b1833, a dressmaker, living with her. What I am unable to find is, a connection between Rebecca Price, and how she's related to John Willcox, her nephew, grandson, relation. Can someone help please? Simon

    3. Hi Lori On Ancestry you need the Premium or Worldwide subscription to gain access to the LMA Parish Registers on there (essentials does not cover them) The PRs are largely pre 1813 and 1813 on You can search each separately by selecting the database :- London, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1980 London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 You can search the Registers by selecting City of London then St Bride's (pre 1813) or St Bride (1813 on) and then selecting the year you want OR Use the "Old Search" enter GARLICK as a surname and just the word Bride in the keyword box You might also try GAR* or *LICK to see if there are any variations not found with the name in full This will give all instances across the databases on Ancestry which will include the ones you want but may highlight one or two in other DBs Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello, > > I am fairly new to Ancestry UK and would like to search for all GARLICK ancestors that were buried > at St Bride, Fleet Street in the early to mid 1800's. 3. Hi Lori As John has pointed out, the 1825 baptism was of a child. I cannot find the 1756 one on Ancestry, but you have presumably seen the original register and presumably no date of birth is shown. But I wonder, given the closeness to the marriage date of Thomas and Jane, whether it was an adult baptism of the groom to be. 3. I have the same situation with one of my ancestors, baptised in 1749 and 1770...it's definitely the same man. I think it's possible that the first baptism was a private one, if he was a sickly baby and the second was a public baptism, so perhaps this is an explanation for your man, although that does seem an incredible lapse of time. Could they be related but not the same individual? Incidentally, the sickly baby lived to 104! HTH Kim, Hull, East Yorkshire > > I have found a strange situation with one of my ancestors. So, check the records, which reveals, first that Thomas Ashley GARLICK, baptized 14th.January, 1825, son of Thomas, pianoforte maker, and Jane, was born on 3rd.June 1823. So, this is a "new" Thomas Ashley G. Then, an Ashley Thomas GARLICK is born Sep.1989 in Portsmouth RD. You might want to look harder at these marriages: Thomas Garlick 18 Sep 1821 Jane Lawson St Pancras Parish Chapel Thomas Garlick 14 May 1826 Jane Salter Shoreditch St Leonard Thomas Garlicks seemed to like marrying Janes: but these are the two for the time period. You might also follow up these children of Thomas & Jane Thomas Ashley Garlick 14 Jan 1825 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick Bloomsbury St George Camden Henry Wodhull Shuckburgh Garlick 8 May 1833 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick St Alban Wood Street City of London Jane Shuckburgh Garlick 8 May 1833 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick St Alban Wood Street City of London Shuckburgh Frederick Garlick 8 May 1833 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick St Alban Wood Street City of London William Lawson Shuckburgh Garlick 8 May 1833 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick St Alban Wood Street City of London Ada Shuckburgh Garlick 6 Apr 1836 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick Holborn St Sepulchre City of London Richard Thuckburgh Garlick 19 Apr 1836 Thomas Garlick,Jane Garlick Holborn St Sepulchre City of London For the earlier baptism you could look more closely at this marriage Thomas Garlick Bann 20 Apr 1756 Saint Mary The Virgin, Twickenham, Middlesex Jane Shuckburgh There are sufficiently few GARLICKs in the London area 1750-1850 for you to be able to build up family groups and then see if you can link them.
