Judy, many thanks for the link to Information Sheet no. 2. The only burial registers for that period I can see listed are for "Imperial Legation of Austria, Charles Street, St James's", which seems to have been at Twickenham during my period of interest. I think I'll look for a burial ground closer to Westminster first, keeping Twickenham on ice! Best wishes, John
Hi, The Guild of One Name Studies are holding the first quarterly seminar for the 2015 in London at the Wellcome Library, to explore Medical & Healthcare Records. We have two talks by Christopher Hilton, the Chief Archivist of the Wellcome Library who hold one of the world's (not just the UK's) most important collections. The Chief Archivist has been with the Wellcome Library for (I believe) 20+ years and is very aware of records which could be of interest to us as family historians. Over our two morning sessions he intends to cover : "- An Overview of the Wellcome Library: origins, types of records found here, facilities offered, etc. - Development of profession and the records you can find from various eras – doctors - Development of profession and the records you can find from various eras – nurses - a little bit on patient records - miscellaneous other records that you can find at the Wellcome Library – Quakers, etc. - our digitisation activities, which will touch both on records I’ve already mentioned, and also on some formats to be discussed later (e.g. asylum records)" It is a huge collection and I hope the talk will also include - surgeons records, army records (some of which are deposited at the Wellcome), and Apothecaries records (It would be great if Christopher also covered the Trade Card and Ephemera collections at the Wellcome ... trailed in a previous seminar) but we may well run out of time ! Our afternoon session will provide us three further talks : Asylum Records by Elizabeth Finn (Collections Development Officer, Kent County Council); Catholic Medical Care Records by Carmen M Mangion PhD; and last but far from least (I have seen the PowerPoint slides) “Find the Midwife – Midwives Records” by Penny Hutchins (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Archivist and Organisation Records Manager). It should be a really interesting day, even if you don't believe you have any Medical connections in your family tree. And as with the seminar we held at the Modern Records Centre in Warwick University (where we covered Trade Union, Masonic, and Friendly Society Records) - this is a one off opportunity. So I do hope if you are in or near London and might be interested that you will consider booking and I'll look forward to seeing you on the 7th. http://one-name.org/seminar_2015feb_medhealth.html Our official booking closing date for bookings is Sunday January 25th 2015 Very Best Regards Richard Heaton SOG & Guild (Semsub) member and Historic Newspaper and Ephemera enthusiast
John, You may want to look at Information Sheet no. 2, linked on this page. https://www.westminster.gov.uk/family-history-leaflets Happy New Year to you too! I am struggling to find any biographical information at all about a man by the name of Verdoni (forename not known). A reliable printed source states that he died about 1804 "in his apartments" in Panton Street. Finding his burial record would at least give me his forename(s). Panton Street was in the parish of St. Martin in the Fields, but does anyone know of any Catholic burial registers in the Westminster area? He is known to have lived in Paris in the 1770s, one writer saying that he moved to London in the 1790s to escape revolution. Another writer suggests that he was Italian by birth. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Best wishes, John

Hi London listers To help my relative with her family tree endeavours, I have introduced her to FreeBMD where we found quite a range of her mother's line - name COLDWELL. Most relevant to this surname were quite a number that lived in the Camberwell region and that suggests some of these were to be counted as her forebears. The free site indicates the likelihood of ancestors back to the time of official registration. Just possible others might have trod this path of enquiry and I would be pleased to hear from such good folk. Also other names that might also figure in this research might include ASHDOWN, BENNETT, CURTIS Additionally, some relatives are know to have occurred in Croydon and in this respect can add WILLCOX to the enquiry. Hope to hear. Michael in Clacton, Essex.

Hello. Does anyone know of a reform school for boys (teens) in the late fifties or early 60's somewhere probably in the london area. Actually, the Kray brothers may have also been there. It may have been called St. Swithun's. Thank you for any help, Roslyn in Montreal -- Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. - Martin Luther King Jr.
I am searching for the 1901 census entry for William Edward CHITTY b 1881 Bonny Street Pancras Middx. His father deceased and mother remarried to James Halsey. He is not with them. I have the 1891entry, he is with mother and stepfather. 1893 I have a school record which gives his guardian and address the same as his grandfather. On the 1911census he is married and occupation given as electric train driver. There is a note which states he was known as HALSEY. I have searched on Ancestry and Find My Past but cannot find him. Any help much appreciated. TIA Pam C

PS I entered a correction to KITSON for Joshua You might like to add one for each person yourself, as they will then show up correctly and anyone else researching them may get in contact if they come across it Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 04/12/2014 19:09, Nivard Ovington wrote: > > Try this one > > > 1841 England Census about Joshua Ritson > Name: Joshua Ritson > Age: 50 > Estimated Birth Year: abt 1791 > Gender: Male > Civil Parish: St Mary Newington > Hundred: Brixton (Eastern Division) > County/Island: Surrey

How many Fdk Geo DREWs were born in the right time frame - in other words, could this be another Fdk.Geo.DREW? > The problem lies in the two names of husbands ! I cannot find the death of Littlepage, or the marrage to Albert James recorded anywhere. Is it the same person changing his name or any other answer. Again electoral registers may help track this Albert and Violet. Have you tried searching for their deaths? (warning, we may be talking living people here - tread carefully) Their death cert may have an AKA Littlepage, it will (as will the indexes latterly) have a alleged age (which is only what the informant knew/guessed) Kind regards, John Henley > Any information would be gratefully received. > Regards > Tony Drew > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >
