    2. Sarah Torline via
    3. Hello All! I recently found the family of my g-g-g-g-grandfather, John LEECH, in the 1841 UK Census. (Forgive my lack of knowledge on the various enumeration districts in the UK Censuses... I'll cite the source as best as I can). The family was living in the county of Middlesex, in the civil parish of St George Hanover Square, living at Ranelagh Grove Pimlico (Class: HO107; Piece: 732; Book: 15; Civil Parish: St George Hanover Square; County: Middlesex; Enumeration District: 43; Folio: 7; Page: 7; Line: 1; GSU roll: 438834) LEECH, John - 45 LEECH, Elizabeth - 40 LEECH, Maria - 20 LEECH, Elizabeth - 15 LEECH, Thomas - 15 LEECH, Matilda - 2 LEECH, John Burgess - 9 No luck finding them in the 1851 Census yet, as Thomas had already left for America at that point (John Burgess left for America after Thomas did, but he may have already been gone at that point as well) & I can't find the rest of the family. I've got birth & death certificates from the GRO for the youngest child, Matilda Jane LEECH from 1839 & 1842 showing they were still living in St George Hanover Square, so I know that the family was there between those years. So my next goal is to find birth/baptism records for my g-g-g-grandfather, Thomas LEECH, and maybe some of his other siblings. Since they were all born prior to 1837 when the BMD records became centralized, I know I need to look at individual parish records. Does anyone know where I can find out what churches would have been located in the St George Hanover Square civil parish from the early-1820's to the mid-1840's? I thought I had some good possibilities, but apparently John's profession changed multiple times, so I'm not 100% sure if it's the right family. From 1839-1842, he was a Carpenter. When Thomas LEECH married his 2nd wife in 1873, his father's profession was listed as a Licensed Victualler. Other baptism records I've found that I think may be correct show his profession as either a Merchant/Tradesman or a Bookseller. So I'm a little bit lost and not sure what to try next. Any suggestions? Thanks! ~ Sarah Dallas, TX

For example, £500 in 1840 would have paid the salaries of ten teachers (or of clergy in poorer parishes) for a year. Or paid for a number of small houses. 3. Hi Chris I have found William's mother - now a widow aged 32 - in the 1851 census. Still in Ebenezer Buildings where the family are in 1841. She gives her birthplace as Great Dunmow Essex so I am sure there is a link to my Gunner family - also dyers and linked to Dunmow. William's brothers, Edward aged 10. and Henry 8 and Richard 4 are with her. No sign yet of his older sister Sarah, nor william himself. I will keep looking and send direct emails with any findings.
