    3. Many thanks are due to John, Ron and Nivard for valuable information on Thomas Palmer, butcher, and my great grandfather. I have discovered a family member I have heard nothing about, (Edward Palmer), a correction of previous birth date which was out by 2 years, and confirmation of new shop premises. Thomas Palmer seems to have opened more butchers' shops than even Tescos could rival. Thanks again. Marvellous! David Roberts

    2. Hello List , I've just found a baptism record dated 1814 which lists the father 's occupation as "Transparent Painter " - has anyone any idea what exactly this would be ? Usually this man has been recorded on other baptism & Mcert records as "Artist" but of course that covers quite a number of areas - but this latest definition is a mystery . I', wondering if perhaps it is something to do with painting on glass or mirror ? Any suggestions appreciated , kind regards Nancy

    3. Hi David Methinks you are getting your dates a little muddled :-( The 1861 census was taken 7th April not 1855 I found the following which I presume are for your family? Bloomsbury St George 1857 Baptized Feb 15 Born Jan 25 Harry son of Thomas & Ann PALMER abode Drury Lane occupation Butcher Robert LONG (Minister) St John the Evangelist Westminster 1859 July 14 1859 baptized Aug 7th Charles Frederick son of Thomas & Ann PALMER abode 152 Drury Lane Occupation Butcher R G MAUL Incumbent Same Church 1864 Baptized March 6 Edward son of Thomas & Ann PALMER abode 165 Drury Lane occupation Butcher R G MAUL Incumbent In 1861 Drury Lane is recorded but there is a small part missing, schedules 369 to 441 which it seems would include 165 Drury Lane, there is damage to the pages before and after the missing part As to Quebec street being an error? I think not 1848 Post Office Directory PALMER Thomas butcher 37 Kingsgate Street Holborn 1856 Post Office Directory PALMER Thomas butcher 29 Great Quebec st Montague sq That is not to say I don't think its the same family but perhaps birth certs would be the way to go A birth in 1855 and for one of the other children will have the same mothers maiden name recorded if the same family All the mentioned addresses are fairly close to one another so I see no reason to discount them Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello List! > > Thomas Palmer (1817 - 1897) and Ann Moore (1827 - 1902) had a son George > Thomas, born abt 1855. > > Thomas was a butcher who started on Kingsgate Street and then moved to 153 > and 167 Drury Lane. > > They do not appear on the 1861 census for Drury Lane part of which I believe > was destroyed, although this is not confirmed on findmyppast. > > In searching to confirm the birth of George Thomas Palmer,in May 1855, > Ancestry has what appears to be the right person (names of parents > correct), but the address shown in the register is 29 Great Quebec Street. > The christening was at St Mary, Bryanston Square. 3. I am hoping someone has access to other census indexes than the online ones as I have spent days trying to find the following couple I am trying to prove/disprove the following person came from Staffordshire. John BLADON born 1811 Gayton Staffs wife died in 1840 leaving him with 2 boys William 1836 Weston on trent Staffs and George 1839 WOT. The family are on the 1841 census but in 1851, William is at Eaton st Mews LONDON (he later joined the 1st life guards as the Riding Master) and George is a visitor in Chelsea (no record of him after this). I assumed John died 1841-1851 but no death record. On ancestry I found a marriage of John to Susannah Gorrod in 1846 at PANCRAS. Hence me trying to prove is this William and George's father? Susannah did have a daughter by her first marriage, Eliza Mary GORROD who I also can't find in 1851. John & Susannah had a daughter Susannah buried in 1848 St MARTIN IN THE FIELD CAMDEN (Of St martin's Lane). John is buried in 1852 of Clipstone St Marylebone at the same church. I am desperate to find John and Susannah in 1851 for his place of birth. Both burials are on Ancestry as is Johns second marriage. I am also confused as to why someone in Marylebone would be buried in Camden Helena Derbyshire

    3. Michelle, There are vast numbers of websites now, some of them free some for which you need subscriptions or pay per view. For London have a look at http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/LND/ For more general there are sites such as Ancestry, FindmyPast, UKBMD, BMDregisters, British-Genealogy.com, british Origins. Hope these will do for a start. Anne On 30 Mar 2011, at 14:19, michelle ramirez wrote: > Hi List > > It's time to blow of the dust and return to my genealogy again. 1. [LON] PETER SKINNER and KEVENHULLER SKINNER
    2. David Cornelius
    3. I wonder if anyone on the List might be able to help track down information on a couple of my ancestors? Firstly on peter Peter Skinner a staymaker of St Martin in the Fields. He married Ann Barnett in 1702. I would like to find out some information as to his birth or christening. They had ten children baptised in St Martin in the Fields. The second piece of information that I would dearly love to find is birth or christening information on KEVENHULLER SKINNER. He was the grandson of Peter, and the son of Jacob. I found that Jacob was trained as a goldsmith and moved to Bath where he married. There three children name, none of whom is Kevenhuller. Yet the Goldsmiths name Kevenhuller, in their apprenticeship records, as being the son of Jacob, "deceased engraver of Bath". I have a deal of information on Kevenhuller but not of his birth. Thank you, David Cornelius

    1. [LON] Palmer Family - Great Quebec Street?
    2. David Roberts
    3. Hello List! Thomas Palmer (1817 - 1897) and Ann Moore (1827 - 1902) had a son George Thomas, born abt 1855. Thomas was a butcher who started on Kingsgate Street and then moved to 153 and 167 Drury Lane. They do not appear on the 1861 census for Drury Lane part of which I believe was destroyed, although this is not confirmed on findmyppast. In searching to confirm the birth of George Thomas Palmer,in May 1855, Ancestry has what appears to be the right person (names of parents correct), but the address shown in the register is 29 Great Quebec Street. The christening was at St Mary, Bryanston Square. This is some way from the Drury Lane and Covent Garden area. On findmypast there does not appear to be a number 29! It goes from 28 to 30. I wondered therefore whether it has been transcribed wrongly and should have been Great Queen Street, which *is* near Drury Lane. But number 29 does not show Thomas Palmer. One possibility is that since the address at the time of the christening was as at May 1855, and the census was taken in April 1855, it is possible that Thomas moved to that address after the census was taken. The other possibility is that I have identified the wrong Thomas Palmer on Ancestry altogether, in spite of the parents names being correct. Any suggestions would be very welcome... David Roberts

    2. I am hoping that I am in the right place...I have had a YDNA 64 marker test it seems I am connected to the Sir James Clerke and Elizabeth Ferrers line...Most of the people I connect with are in the USA I also connect into this line with my Autosomonal DNA from a daughter of Thomas Clarke and Rose Kerrich, .Thomas being a descendant of Sir James.. I cannot link my ancestry through the paper trail to them, as I have come to a dead end with my 2nd great grandfather William Smith Clark who was born c.1808 in Ireland. Checking out my links on Ancestry I have discovered that Sir James may have married previously to Joane.. does anyone know how I can find something more definite ? as I cannot find anything on the internet just peoples trees with conflicting information. Some Clark lines in the trees seem to have migrated to Barbados..and I wondered how my descendants migrated to Ireland ? I guess it was land and plantations..any views from someone would be greatly appreciated.. Hope someone can help my confusion ?? Keith

    1. [LON] Chambers Family in Wandsworth
    2. Good morning. I am new to this list and I am hoping someone here can help me out. For years I have been chipping away at our brick wall, brick by brick. I have been trying to find out what happened to the members of our Chambers family. Happily I can account for some of them. Others are more elusive. I am trying to confirm our connection to William George Chambers and his wife Florence Louisa (nee Cook). In 1911 the family was living at 15 Garton St. , Wandsworth along with their 8 month old son George. Their marriage certificate shows they were married March 17, 1910 at St Ann's Church, Wandsworth. They may have had another son between 1912 and 1915 but so far haven't been able to confirm it. According to information I have, William died in 1939. In FreeBMD there is a listing for a William G. Chambers who died at age 59 in Chelsea in the December quarter, 1939. The age is right as our William was born in 1880. William may have been a builder in the Wandsworth area specializing in masonry. Back ground info - William is the third child of seven of Alfred and Emma (nee See) Chambers. From 1875 to the early 1900's the family lived in Wandsworth area at various addresses. Does this family sound familiar to anyone? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Cheers! Pat in Canada [Attachment: unnamed_file]
