    1. [LON] Advice re:contacting lost cousins overseas
    2. April Moran
    3. Hello to all on the list, I have located some lost cousins overseas and would like to contact them, by letter, regarding our family connections, to include names, dates and a photo that I have. I have been thinking, long and hard, how I should start a letter like this, but have not been confidant enough to go with the thoughts that I have. I am wondering if someone on the list has done something similar and can advise me on writing such a letter without appearing too forthright. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this subject. TIA April Moran

    3. There is an engraving online of the remains of Red Lion Market Whitecross Street http://tinyurl.com/3e8v4lh You can also look at what Charles Booth's survey notebooks say about it http://tinyurl.com/63s5raj I would presume he may have been at work when he died. In the 1881 census 6 Red Lion Market was occupied by a fruit salesman called John FOLEY with his wife and family in one household. A watchman called Hohn CALLAGHAN and his family and a boarder called John SINGLETON and a family Called SELVEY headed by a wife - husband not listed. It's in the St Luke's district of London. 3. Hello Anne, Thank you for your email, I am looking for MARGARET BAZLEY not Mary. I checked historic directories but nothing there for London in the 1860's. Regards Caroline M . DRAKE, this is not my Caroline DRAKE but it is a conincidence that they were both born in Okehampton, Devon, in 1806. I researched Caroline M. The person in particular is William Arthur STEPHENSON b: 1876. I received an email today from someone who did a search of the electorial registers dating from 1936 to 1940 for 24 Mill Ridge, Edgware. William was living at this address from 1937 to 1940 with his wife Gladys and i think his son although there was no mention of the son. I do not know if William was still living at this address after 1940. I would like to find his death registration and order his certificate. 3. Jeremy--If you look at the entry just opposite (to the right) of your Trent entry, you will see that the address there is definitely 25 Swan Lane. It looks just like the Swan Lane for Trent. On Judy's suggestion of Thanet Cottage, Swan Lane I "googled" that phrase. It appears in Google Books in an 1862 listing so I'm sure Judy is correct. 3. Hello, I am new to this list and hope that someone may be able to help me. I have been researching Margaret BAZLEY b. 1794 to Aaron and Mary BAZLEY in Okehampton, Devon. She became a school teacher in Bath and governess/head mistress at Godolphin School, Salisbury. She retired in 1854. The National Provincial Bank put notices in various newpapers throughout the country of the "persons of whom the company or partnership consists" with an address and Mary BAZLEY turns up in 1863(in the Hampshire Telegraph & Sussex Chronicle) at 6 Denbigh Road, Kensington Park, W, in 1867 she is at 6 Colville Road, Bayswater. There she stays (according to the NPB) until 1871 when she is at Upper Bognor, Sussex. Does anyone have access to any directories of London for the dates of 1863, 1866, 1867, 1868, 1869, and 1870 and is Margaret Bazley mentioned in any of them? I am also looking for her widowed sister Caroline DRAKE who may be living with her, as they were living together before Caroline's marriage in 1852 and after 1871? Many thanks, Lesley Abraham. 3. Hi David In the 1841 census Thirza Palmer who died in 1843 is living in Red Lion Street, in the same household as Thomas Knight 25, with Ann Palmer 55, Thomas Palmer 20 and Harriet Palmer 20. So the death certificate sounds like the right one. I will send you more detail off list. Her brother came to London in the early 1840s and lived on Drury Lane. Another sister, Harriet, lived at 34 Hall Street (Goswell Road). I now have the death certificate for Thirza who died of scrofula. I was hoping that a member of the family might have been present at the death, and would therefore be mentioned on the DC. However the person present was Thomas Knight. I sent for the certificate on the grounds that: - *Thirza is a fairly unusual first name* - *The age is right (27)* - *The address is not too far away from her brother at Drury Lane and her sister at Hall Street.* Does anyone have any ideas how I might tie this down to be certain the she is the family member I seek? Is it likely that she would be in one of the London Directories? I wonder whether she might have been a dressmaker like her sister? Any help would be appreciated.
