Hi Richie: Would it be possible to view Lewis Hambley's death certificate? Perhaps it gives how many years in West Australia (or wherever he died) and if from another state, how many years in that state or Australia in general. For example, several of my Victorian folks arrived and lived for a time in New South Wales, so their death certs say xx years in NSW and xx years in Vic. (xx being the number of years). Just a thought. Glenys (keeping my dog out of the wind!) I presume its just a typo but he appears in the 1901 census aged 19 As he was living in Cornwall at the time my suggestion is that he worked his passage to Australia and will not appear on a passenger list You are far more likely to find an incoming record into Australia than an outgoing from the UK , did he use a false name perhaps Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Seeking help in finding immigration details for > Lewis hambly abt1882 Pelynt,(near Plymouth)Cornwall > > Lewis last appears on the 1891 uk census as a 19 year old > Then appears on the 1903 electoral roll in Western Australia > Lewis hambly m Eleanor Barker 1909 Ravensthorpe - Western Australia > > Having no luck in finding his arrival details in western Australia > Possible arrivals in nsw Australia > > Any advice would be appreciated > Richie in a cold & blustery bowen (would blow the spots off a dog)
I have been going through newspaper articles of old and found an article in which an ancestor is mentioned. The quote is: "...the elder Dalton was a pharmacist graduated from the Academy of London." Given that his pharmacist, one Frederick Dalton, came to this continent in 1841 and was listed on the ships manifest as a "Chymist" so he would have had to attended and graduated before 1841. Can anyone point me towards this "Academy of London"? Thank you Bill Dalton in Gig Harbor, USA

According to the National Archives index for 1891 it was near Bath Row. Bath Row is now Ramsgate Street according to <http://www.maps.thehunthouse.com/Streets/Old_to_New_Abolished_London_Street_Names.htm> This is Ramsgate St on a modern map http://tinyurl.com/44fqu5z It looks very modern when you use Street View, so I would imagine Dyssal St might have disappeared by now. So it was north of Dalston Lane HTH Anne On 15 May 2011, at 16:36, Gill Jones wrote: > Could some SKS enlighten me as to where Dyssall Street is in West Hackney. Hello, Recently upon renewing my research into my Dalrymple grandmother's family, I discovered the baptism details of three of her siblings on Ancestry.co.uk, but no sign of the other three. Each of the former was christened at Saint Mary's Church, Whitechapel, per LMA records available to Ancestry. All six children were born in either Bow or Hackney within a space of five years and so I wonder why I cannot find the details for all six. I am pretty sure all the children were baptized at the same church even though the family moved north to Hackney after the birth of the fourth child. I am aware that the church was lost in the blitz but obviously some if not all the records were saved. If I make a personal visit to the LMA am I likely to find a record of the three 'lost' baptisms? Alas I see no likely marriage as you say Thomas Edward on GRO in Mar 1854 I can only find them in 1861 asa family and 1871 when Ann is a widow No sign of either in 1851 census - have you found them? Is Elmes a maiden name from a birth certificate? Apologies! Slip of the finger, influenced by the index on Ancestry: that couple should of course have been William Henry GALLEY & Amelia TURNBULL not Turnball. Hoping someone may be able to help. I am looking for a marriage between Thomas CORNELL and Ann ELMES in London. If it happened it would have been between say 1846 and 1854. He was born circa 1827 in Stratford, Essex and she circa 1829/31 in St Pancras. First known child born circa 1854 in Bethnal Green. I have searched hi & lo for this marriage and am beginning to think they never married unless someone can see something that I have missed. Hoping against hope. She married THOMAS WISE in 1903 in the same area he died in 1929 my quest is finding her death when she married she only used the name EMILY WELLS but as she was present at her husbands death the certificate shows her as EMILY A WISE I have recently found a marriage for EMILY ALICE WELLS IN 1935 in hampstead but my problem is did she revert back to the name wells for her second marriage or what is the leagle position if any I Think she may have stayed in 91 whiston street as she is there in the 1911 census under her full name with her husband and 2 children I recently bought a certificate for the death of an EMILY A WISE in BROMLEY but it is the wrong one. Or could she have been killed one of the many during the last war when whiston street was wiped of the face of the earth she is now my brick wall in this family need help please thanks pete.

Is it possible that Ann Elmes was previously married ? Therefore her maiden name is shown on a birth certificate but when she married Thomas she is indexed under her married name which we don't know. --- On Wed, 11/5/11, jenny lang <jjlang@xtra.co.nz> wrote: From: jenny lang <jjlang@xtra.co.nz> Subject: [LON] Elmes/Cornell marriage To: LONDON@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, 11 May, 2011, 10:37 Hoping someone may be able to help.
