Hello List, Many thanks to all who answered my query with information and websites. After William Whiteman left 81 Clapham Park Road, A Bown (not A Brown as previously stated) probably took over the premises, this would fit with the apparent ages of the people in the picture. Time early 1900. > > Any assistance appreciated. > > Ray Hudson Perth, Western Australia. Hi Ray I haven't found anything about the photographer A Brown at this address but I came across this on one website: "Around 1904, William Whiteman established his own photographic studio in Clapham. Located at 81 Clapham Park Road, Clapham, S.W. London, William Whiteman's studio was known as The Park Studio and was in business for just a few years between 1904 and 1906" Whether there is any connection between the 2 photographers I'm afraid I cannot say - unless William Whiteman sold out to A Brown as the article also says his (William's) business collapsed in about 1907. Hope that's of some help Liz
Is it possible your photo actually says H Bown, not A Brown? I have an old photo taken around that time and have done some snooping on the photographer. His name was Henry Bown and he had studios at several addresses. One was 298 Clapham Road. Actually I see now there was a junior and senior Henry Bown. Just a thought. Kristen

Hello, I have in my possession a copy of the last Will and Testament of Emily Sarah Little dated 08/03/1918 Widow of 223 New Kings Road, Fulham. Benefactors included niece Emily Sarah Catleugh, Theodore Guillaume, nephew William Denzil Catleugh, cousin Agnes Sarah Gobbi, cousin Emily Lindsell, cousin Polly Brook, friend Edith Emily Phelps and housekeeper Emily Vodkins. Should anyone be interested, I am willing to send via an Sae to the first person to reply. Regards, David Lindsell
So are you looking for descendants of these boys or their births etc As well as 1851 census I would look for 1841 census if you have not got it With Ancestry LMA baptisms you can search for surname and the parents to find families I could not see anything for the boys so I would suggest search FreeBMD/GRO perhaps these boys baptised in a non LMA search But there are these Emma Butler 14 Oct 1836 John Butler a Groom and Lucy Butler St George the Martyr Southwark Lucy Butler 5 May 1839 John Butler, a Ostler and Lucy Butler St Andrew Holborn City of London Robert Butler 18 Aug 1852 John Butler, a Ostler Lucy Butler Holborn St Sepulchre City of London 1851 I see John is a Groom so presumably the above are siblings of the boys in 1851 Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/ On 2011-06-17 4:30 PM, Jeff Butler wrote: > As I have John Butler's parents and brother and sister's up to the present day. With the surname of Butler and first names of John, William, Edward and Thomas they are not that uncommon and the 1851 census has their birth place as London which does not help. Unless someone with their research has come down to the three brothers I can see how I can start, if you can suggest a way forward please. > > Thank you >
Hi Anne and Mick A little bit of both to your questions. As I have John Butler's parents and brother and sister's up to the present day. I just cannot see where to start with his three sons. With the surname of Butler and first names of John, William, Edward and Thomas they are not that uncommon and the 1851 census has their birth place as London which does not help. Unless someone with their research has come down to the three brothers I can see how I can start, if you can suggest a way forward please. Thank you Jeff
