    3. In 1821 a Richard Walker was listed as a stationer and bookseller at 90 High Holborn. (Robson's, 1821). In 1833 a Jos. Walker was an upholsterer at 109 High Holborn. (Critchett's, 1833). In 1838 a surgeon was at 90 High Holborn, a coffee room at 91, and a Jos. Walker was an upholsterer at 108 and 109 High Holborn. (Robson's, 1838). 3. Still looking for anyone researching William and Ann MESSER from Blue Gate Fields, St George in the East. William was a rope maker. Children were Ann b1791, married William IVES 1812; Sarah b 1794; Susannah b 1796 married George HOLMES 1814; Elizabeth b 1798; Richard b 1799; Mary b 1802 (may have married Robert BLACKFORD 1819), James 1804; William John b 1805 and Henry b 1807. I am having great difficulty finding out anything more! I am wondering if this Henry MESSER was my g-g-grandfather who came to Sydney, Australia and married Emily SUTHERLAND in 1835. How can I find out anything more about Henry between 1807 and 1835?? I have tried all the obvious records - parish BDM, burials, military, immigration. Susannah and Richard are the 'different' names in this MESSER family and could be one of the Hampshire MESSER families or St Mary HENDON ones. I think they were Non Conformists - Quakers? Any helpful suggestions gratefully received. Barbara

While I am unsure, I think they might be the children of Daniel Skinner and Frances Corbett. I have found their other children at St Olave's Hart Lane. Daniel completed school at Westminster school in 1670. Mary became Samuel Pepys long time mistress. I would be grateful if someone might suggest where else I might look. Thank you, David Cornelius

Registers of Electors are not currently online. There is a fairly complete run nationally at the British Library. I think the London Metropoltan Archives have some for some of London - check their Catalogue at A2A. Usually, the local studies/archives centre/library for the successor London Borough to the Metropoltan Borough in which was/is Irwell Place will ahve the Registers for their own borough. > He is on the 1911 Census with the family-my grandmother and my Mom Annie and sister. > However, on the 1911, he is also shown living with his sister and brother at 35 Neptune Street. > How can this be??? "shown living" - no, censuses until 2001 record place where a person actually was on census night. Did he sign the household schedule for his own address? Usual reason for double enumeration is confusion over what was meant by "overnight" on census night. The 2011 form added to the confusion by specifying one day eg."overnight 7th" rather than the more usual and specific "overnight 6th/7th" or "overnight 7th/8th". Special arrangements were made to enumerate people in transit and working overnight. Your grandfather may have filled in the census form in advance, expecting to be at home, and for some reason was at his siblings' home....and they filled inthe form on Monday morning. We shall never now. Still, it is nice to have him twice... tho' can lead to more questions if the details do not correspond exactly :-) Kind regards, John Henley > > Hoping for some answers from the very busy Rootsweb friends.Patricia in Alberta,Canada > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > This mailing list works in parallel with the London surname interest list on the web at > http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~hughw/london.html .
