    3. Hi John The surname appears to be LUNKEN rather than LINKEN in the 1891, 1901 & 1911 (in 1891 it states LUNKEN or LINKEN so the enumerator was finding it hard to read) The 1911 being in his own hand you would say thats how he spelled it himself Did he Anglicise it after 1911? Veronica's death is registered under LUNKEN but did not find Christopher Are you sure this is the right family before I look further? Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi All, new to this list > trying to discover ANYTHING about my great grandparents and family > Christopher and Veronica (?) 3. Hi John, and welcome to the list. Your family seem to have started off in this country as LUNKENHEIMER (or variants thereon!). Christopher married Veronika MENTEN in the second quarter of 1888 in the St Pancras RD (Vol 1b page 272). The certificate should give you the names and occupations of both their fathers. Park Village East does indeed still exist, and very lovely the houses are too! Google Street View will allow you to walk down it and identify the current number 4 which may or may not be the same as the number 4 in the 19th century. Does this help as a start? Best wishes Caroline > > Hi All, new to this list > trying to discover ANYTHING about my great grandparents and family > Christopher and Veronica (?) Below is my transcription, not too easy to read the entry as it looks as if the enumerator wrote small with a thick pen nib so it looks like ink blobs in parts, particularly the ages:- RG12/246, f38, p20, sch. 151. 121 Murray Street, Shoreditch. Tell me how to search for maps, plans and photographs. Tell me more about: Historical Tax Rolls Official Reports Boundary Information Hydrographic Surveys Farm Horse Tax 1797-1798 The Farm Horse Tax rolls (NAS E326/10) list the names of the owner and number of horses and mules used in husbandry or trade in 1797-1798. In some rolls the tax inspectors made repeat visits to track down non-payers, which explains why some parishes and burghs are repeated. The listing below is that of the original rolls. Clock and Watch Tax, 1797-1798 The Clock and Watch Tax rolls (National Archives of Scotland, E326/12) list the names of clock and watch owners as well as the number of clocks and watches and tax totals. The listing below is that of the original rolls. Only two volumes survive and it is fairly clear that a third volume (containing the counties of Midlothian, Moray, Orkney, Peebles, Perth, Renfrew, Ross, Roxburgh, Selkirk, Shetland, Stirling, Sutherland, West Lothian, and Wigtown) is not extant. 3. Michael, I don't think there is any single complete answer to this, speaking as someone who has recently written a book on a biographical subject who is thought in his early days to have been an actor. I have found sources of information quite diverse. Could you perhaps say more about the nature of your search? One of the most useful lists I know is the index to Boase's work, "Modern English Biography" (1897), since it includes, additionally, actors' stage names, which are sometimes not the same as their real names. 3. Not necessarily. Mothers' maiden names appear in the GRO index only from 1 July 1911 onwards. So a search for the Graham/Metcalfe combination will come up with zero results before that date.
