This is my first post to this list. My focus is my direct ancestor William James LLOYDD. One of his daughters (Helen), married a MARKS and one of her daughters (Rayner) married a SKINNER. I am seeking; (a) Proof of birth, and proof of William's parents who may have been Henry P LLOYD and Laura BARNES. William is thought to have been born at Southington Connecticut, 23 August 1834. (b) Details of any siblings of William. William is alleged to have arrived in New Zealand about February 1855 on the whaling ship 'Saratoga', 37 months out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He may have signed on as HOYT, or HOYT may have been his real surname? Equally HOYT may have been an error. The voyage records suggest he is likely to have returned to the ship's home port rather than jumping ship (or similar); that though is not proven. He married Helen YATES 9 March 1859 Auckland, New Zealand. Helen was born 10 December 1842 at Newarthill, Bothwell Lanarkshire, Scotland. She is understood to have arrived in Auckland, NZ in 1853. There were 10 known children, all born in New Zealand. William died Whananaki, Northland, New Zealand on 18 March 1899. His death notice states 'Home papers copy'. This could have been for either William or Helen's families, or both? Ray Auckland, NZ.
