    1. [LLOYD] Lloyd-Ball marriage c. 1765 New Jersey
    2. Helen Graves
    3. My ancestor Aaron Lloyd was b. 1774 in NJ per his 1858 obit published in a Erie Co., PA, newspaper. Aaron Lloyd married Margaret Lindsey or Lindsley c. 1794 either in Essex Co., NJ, or in Duanesburg, Albany Co., NY (Duanesburg was in Albany Co. in 1794). They had 12 children. Their first two children were: 1. Benijah Lloyd born 18 Dec 1795 in NY. I descend from Benijah. 2. John Crilley Lloyd born 26 April 1797 in NY. The middle name "Crilley" is certainly a surname. Why the parents would give "Crilley" as a middle name to their second son has always been of interest to me. In 2000 while researching John LLOYD of Essex Co., NJ, records at the FHL in Salt Lake, I ran into the name John Crilley of Essex Co., NJ, but I did not have time to research the man to find out who he might be. Today I think I have found the answer to "Crilley" which seems to further support the belief that Aaron Lloyd's parents were John Lloyd and Rebecca Ball of Campton, Newark area, Essex Co., NJ. This online source (a book): "Family Records or Genealogies of the First Settlers of the Passaic Valley and vicinity above Chatham, with their ancestors and descendants as far as could be ascertained in 1851," by John Littell (1851) says: Under the heading EDWARD BALL DESCENDANTS (Edw. Ball was a founder of Newark, NJ.) it lists the family of Nathaniel Ball. The book says: "Nathaniel Ball lived at Connecticut Farms near where the tavern is kept on the turnpike."Then follows info on 8 children of Nathaniel Ball. #2 daughter Rhoda BALL born c. 1740 married Patrick Crilley, an Irishman, of Connecticut Farms, now Union, and had children: 1. John Crilley 2. Moses Crilley 3. Sarah Crilley 4. Esther Crilley 5. Martha Crilley 6. Betsey Crilley 7. Elias Crilley 8. David Crilley. This identifies who John Crilley was. #3. daughter Rebecca BALL born c. 1743 " married a Mr. Lloyd of Campton, now Clinton." My ancestor Aaron Lloyd's father was John Lloyd of Campton, Essex Co., NJ. Other published BALL genealogies says Rebecca Ball married John Lloyd of Campton. Rhoda Ball Crilley's son John Crilley would have been the first cousin of Aaron Lloyd, son of Rhoda's sister Rebecca Ball Lloyd. Rhoda Ball Crilley was born c. 1740. Her sister Rebecca Ball Lloyd was born c. 1743. Their two sons would have been close in age and raised in the Newark area of Essex Co., NJ which might be the reason Aaron Lloyd's second born child was named "John Crilley Lloyd". While this is not proof that Rebecca Ball Lloyd was Aaron's mother, it is another indication that Aaron Lloyd's father John Lloyd of the Campton area of Newark, Essex Co., NJ, was the John Lloyd who married Rebecca Ball (as found in Ball family genealogies). Here's another indication that it was my ancestor John Lloyd who married Rebecca Ball: Another son of Aaron and Margaret Lloyd was named "Watts Bonnell Lloyd". Naming a son "Watts Bonnell" has also intrigued me. Neither are common names. Why would they choose this name? In the same book (named above) was listed another daughter of Nathaniel Ball -- Eunice Ball. Eunice was another sister of Rebecca Ball. The book says that Eunice Ball married "Watts Bonnell". I think I have found two strong clues as to why Aaron and Margaret Lloyd named sons "John Crilley Lloyd" and "Watts Bonnell Lloyd". Helen Graves, with her Lloyd line back to John Lloyd of Essex Co., NJ My Lloyd line is: John Lloyd (c. 1740-c. 1790) m. c. 1765 Rebecca Ball of Essex Co., NJ. Rebecca died 1813 in Duanesburg, NY. Aaron Lloyd (1774-1858) m. Margaret Lindsey. Lived in Duanesburg, NY in 1800, moved to Erie Co., PA, in 1815. Died there in 1858. Benijah Lloyd (1795-1864) m. Elizabeth Dunn in Erie Co., PA. Moved to Mercer Co., IL, 1835. James Lloyd (1827-1901) m. Catherine Burroughs in Mercer Co., IL. He died there in 1901. Lydia Lloyd (1857-1886) m. Philip Walston in Mercer Co., IL. My Lloyd line ends with Lydia.
