This is my first post to this list. My focus is my direct ancestor William James LLOYDD. One of his daughters (Helen), married a MARKS and one of her daughters (Rayner) married a SKINNER. I am seeking; (a) Proof of birth, and proof of William's parents who may have been Henry P LLOYD and Laura BARNES. William is thought to have been born at Southington Connecticut, 23 August 1834. (b) Details of any siblings of William. William is alleged to have arrived in New Zealand about February 1855 on the whaling ship 'Saratoga', 37 months out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He may have signed on as HOYT, or HOYT may have been his real surname? Equally HOYT may have been an error. The voyage records suggest he is likely to have returned to the ship's home port rather than jumping ship (or similar); that though is not proven. He married Helen YATES 9 March 1859 Auckland, New Zealand. Helen was born 10 December 1842 at Newarthill, Bothwell Lanarkshire, Scotland. She is understood to have arrived in Auckland, NZ in 1853. There were 10 known children, all born in New Zealand. William died Whananaki, Northland, New Zealand on 18 March 1899. His death notice states 'Home papers copy'. This could have been for either William or Helen's families, or both? Ray Auckland, NZ.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Will CLARK which was taken at the Bostock Studio in Palisade, Nebraska. Jeremiah (1783-1831) and Susanna Lloyd of New Castle County, Delaware, had a family Bible according to a Talley family history published in 1899. (Susanna was Susanna Talley.) In 1899 the Bible would probably have been in the possession of a descendant of their son, Joseph (d.1855), also of Brandywine Hundred, New Castle County. Would like to know the present whereabouts of this Bible. Roberta **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. I am looking for parents of Jeremiah Lloyd (1783-1831). He owned land in New Castle County, Delaware and died there. He married Susannah Talley, "probably in Pennsylvania". He is found in census records in Delaware County, Pennsylvania in 1807 and 1810 before he appears in New Castle County about 1816. I believe that his parents are likely Joseph Lloyd and Elizabeth Brown of Delaware County, Delaware. I know that they had at least 8 children and that their third oldest was Joseph, who turned 21 in about 1790. Can anyone give me any additional information about Joseph and Elizabeth? Will be glad to share what I have learned to date. Roberta **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Is Ron Lloyd (a descendant of Benijah Lloyd of Mercer Co., IL) on the list? I last corresponded with Ron Lloyd maybe 1999. Had a computer crash in 2002 and lost all of our correspondence plus his email address. Has anyone on the list corresponded with Ron Lloyd since 1999 and do you have an email address for him? Helen Graves (I also descend from Benijah Lloyd who died in Mercer Co., IL, in 1864.)
Helen, I am convinced that this Lloyd family may be connected to my Lloyd family, due to the "Crilly" name. My Great Grandfather went by the name "Mason McCrillis Lloyd" He used the middle initial of M. and C. at various times. He married my Great Grandmother under the name Cullous Lloyd. We have often thought the Crillis, McCrillis, or Cullous Lloyd was a surname from somewhere. My Great Grandfather was born in Madison County, Illinois, but his father, Christopher C. Lloyd, born was from Pennsylvania. I have his Civil War Records and he states he was born in Epra. (abbreviated) Pennsylvania. I thought it was Euphrata, Pennsylvania. I wish he would have spelled the city out instead of abbreviating it. My Grandmother was a Lloyd and married an Ames in St. Louis, Missouri. Keep me informed if you find anything else. Audrey Diener Troy, Illinois ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen Graves" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2008 2:55 PM Subject: [LLOYD] Lloyd-Ball marriage c. 1765 New Jersey My ancestor Aaron Lloyd was b. 1774 in NJ per his 1858 obit published in a Erie Co., PA, newspaper. Aaron Lloyd married Margaret Lindsey or Lindsley c. 1794 either in Essex Co., NJ, or in Duanesburg, Albany Co., NY (Duanesburg was in Albany Co. in 1794). They had 12 children. Their first two children were: 1. Benijah Lloyd born 18 Dec 1795 in NY. I descend from Benijah. 2. John Crilley Lloyd born 26 April 1797 in NY. The middle name "Crilley" is certainly a surname. Why the parents would give "Crilley" as a middle name to their second son has always been of interest to me. In 2000 while researching John LLOYD of Essex Co., NJ, records at the FHL in Salt Lake, I ran into the name John Crilley of Essex Co., NJ, but I did not have time to research the man to find out who he might be. Today I think I have found the answer to "Crilley" which seems to further support the belief that Aaron Lloyd's parents were John Lloyd and Rebecca Ball of Campton, Newark area, Essex Co., NJ. This online source (a book): "Family Records or Genealogies of the First Settlers of the Passaic Valley and vicinity above Chatham, with their ancestors and descendants as far as could be ascertained in 1851," by John Littell (1851) says: Under the heading EDWARD BALL DESCENDANTS (Edw. Ball was a founder of Newark, NJ.) it lists the family of Nathaniel Ball. The book says: "Nathaniel Ball lived at Connecticut Farms near where the tavern is kept on the turnpike."Then follows info on 8 children of Nathaniel Ball. #2 daughter Rhoda BALL born c. 1740 married Patrick Crilley, an Irishman, of Connecticut Farms, now Union, and had children: 1. John Crilley 2. Moses Crilley 3. Sarah Crilley 4. Esther Crilley 5. Martha Crilley 6. Betsey Crilley 7. Elias Crilley 8. David Crilley. This identifies who John Crilley was. #3. daughter Rebecca BALL born c. 1743 " married a Mr. Lloyd of Campton, now Clinton." My ancestor Aaron Lloyd's father was John Lloyd of Campton, Essex Co., NJ. Other published BALL genealogies says Rebecca Ball married John Lloyd of Campton. Rhoda Ball Crilley's son John Crilley would have been the first cousin of Aaron Lloyd, son of Rhoda's sister Rebecca Ball Lloyd. Rhoda Ball Crilley was born c. 1740. Her sister Rebecca Ball Lloyd was born c. 1743. Their two sons would have been close in age and raised in the Newark area of Essex Co., NJ which might be the reason Aaron Lloyd's second born child was named "John Crilley Lloyd". While this is not proof that Rebecca Ball Lloyd was Aaron's mother, it is another indication that Aaron Lloyd's father John Lloyd of the Campton area of Newark, Essex Co., NJ, was the John Lloyd who married Rebecca Ball (as found in Ball family genealogies). Here's another indication that it was my ancestor John Lloyd who married Rebecca Ball: Another son of Aaron and Margaret Lloyd was named "Watts Bonnell Lloyd". Naming a son "Watts Bonnell" has also intrigued me. Neither are common names. Why would they choose this name? In the same book (named above) was listed another daughter of Nathaniel Ball -- Eunice Ball. Eunice was another sister of Rebecca Ball. The book says that Eunice Ball married "Watts Bonnell". I think I have found two strong clues as to why Aaron and Margaret Lloyd named sons "John Crilley Lloyd" and "Watts Bonnell Lloyd". Audrey ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen Graves" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2008 2:55 PM Subject: [LLOYD] Lloyd-Ball marriage c.
