I received this as a post from a non-subscriber and thought it was of interest to the group so I'm posting it here with my reply. Thomas Littleton MARTIN b 12 May 1791, Northampton Co.,VA, d 6 May 1835, Washington DC, md Harriet Lanphier. I have done a good bit of searching for connection to the LITTLETONs who were among the original settlers on the Eastern Shore. It seems that the name shows up as a given name in families that had little if any connection to the Littleton family. This also seems to happen with the name SOUTHEY. Can anyone any comment about this? Ellen L. Martin ellenmartin@exotrope.net Ellen, Yes, I agree completely. I constantly get inqueries about family connections to the Littletons which resulted in Littleton as a given name with another surname. I read that the Littletons were very highly respected back in MD and VA and people would name their kids Littleton something just out of respect. Wonder how many Clinton Littletons there will be? HA HA (Thought everyone could use a BIG laugh)
