I am seeking any clue that I am related to Littletons. My great grandfather was Richard D. Littleton Alley born in Buckingham Co. Virginia 1833. There has to be a Littleton relationship. Just had to pass it along. And hey, don't feel bad about what your ancestors did or were. It's all part of their wonderful interesting history. Many of you might not know it but there were two Littletons (Lyttleton) back in England in 1604 that were executed for complicity in the Gun Powder Plot to blow up the King and his family. Remember Guy Falks Day??? "Remember, remember the 4th of November." We all have skeletons in the closet, but we also have lots of great Littletons also. Cc: TLTURBO@aol.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Welcome Stephanie C. Brown to the Alabama/Texas Littletons, We share the same ancestors. Your Oscar was one of the six children born to my grandfather John Edward (1856-1930) and his wife Ziltha Ann "Zilla" (Morgan) Littleton. On 4 April 1878 John and Zillia married in the Chilton Cty, AL home of the bride's parents, Lewis and Elizabeth Morgan. This is the abbreviated version of John's life: About 1893, John abandoned his wife Zilla and their children. He left them to work a 106-acre Alabama farm that were very close to John's parents, Lewis "Tank" and Harriet M. (Ellison) Littleton, and his married brothers and sisters. Actually, the first attempt was a half-hearted, probably the result of an argument. He took 6-year-old Oscar and started walking down the road. Of course, his brothers caught up with him and, because his young son was so upset and confused, they convinced John to return. Sometime later, he left in wagon early one morning to get grain. He never returned home. Along the road leading West, John started traveling with Thomas Zachary Taylor Dean and his wife Rachel (Phipps) and their 13 children, including their teenage daughter Alice Jane. The family was traveling with other Alabama family members to Texas. Within two years, my grandmother married my grandfather, more than 20 years her senior. The wedding took place in Iola, Grimes Cty, TX. As a result of their marriage, John and Alice had 11 children, the youngest one is my 83-year-old mother. In 1942, 12 years after my grandfather's death, James M. "Jim" Littleton, one of John's sons with Zilla, tracked the whereabouts of his father to Elkhart, Anderson Cty, TX. Jim, who was only 10 years older than my 65-year-old widowed grandmother, wanted answers to questions, especially what happened to his father. Needless to say, this visit was a shock. John never told Alice about his first family. During Jim's visit and an exchange visit to Alabama, my grandmother pieced together John's life. Because of the impact of this family secret, very few Texas Littletons (and their family members) could believe or acknowledge that John was a bigamist. I've never found a divorce decree. It wasn't until I got into using the computer to do genealogical research that I began connect with other "cousins" and unravel the truth. Even today, I have several 60+-year-old cousins who are in denial and/or too embarrassed to discuss this. Stephanie, I have more information on John and Zilla's ancestors/ siblings/ children. John fathered more than 17 children and he adopted at least two others...so imagine the wonderful opportunity you have to connect with so many members of your family. My advice is to buy a software package for genealogy because you have LOTS OF LITTLETON COUSINS!! E-mail me soon. Terri O'Connor oconnor@admin.fhda.edu P.S. Thanks Terry Littleton for passing this email along. I continue to put more family puzzle pieces together because of people like you. The Littleton list serve, and your efforts in keeping this going, is an invaluable service. God Bless You! Good Sunday morning all, I'm sure many of you don't know that this service exists, so I'm passing along another tidbit of research info. You know how great this newslist is for reaching people with similar interests, well if you are a new subscriber, wouldn't you like to see what we've been talking about since I started this thing last March? We now have 80 subscribers by the way. Well Rootsweb archives all the newsgroup traffic, not just for this newsgroup, BUT for all their newsgroups. You can go to their site and look to see ALL the newsgroups that exist. Those for surnames like this one, and also all the county, state or regional newsgroups. You type in the newsgroup name and then you can do a search for any word in that newsgroup. Makes it great to check out a newly discovered county your Littletons showed up in and see if anyone has ever posted an e-mail to that group about your surname. Here is their web site address. http://rootsweb.com/~maillist/ (the ~ is uppercase in the top left of your keyboard) This should keep you busy for the rest of the day. HA HA Terry Littleton (listdad)
Hi Rick, Wish I could be of some help here. He's not on my immediate Littleton line, which leads directly back to the Eastern Shore of MD. Howdy all, I have been on the list some time and read all the post. I posted this request some time ago and thought I would give it another shot. Looking for any info on Reuben Littleton born 1797 in TN. He married Hannah Ashman Willett on 21 December 1815 in Williamson Co TN. Their children were, Tatum b 25 Dec 1823 TN Green b 1831 TN Jannett Tennessee b 1834 TN Reuben C. b 1837 MS Robert b 1833 TN Elizabeth Ann b 1827 TN Albert James b 1818 TN The family moved to Lowndes MS between 1834 and 1837. I suspect Reuben had a brother named William. They served in the same outfit during the war of 1812. I have not made any connections to Reuben. Thanks All Have a super day Rick

TEST TEST We're still playing with the server options here at work. Terry Littleton (listed)
If everyone got multiple posts of my message on the Alabama Littleton help request, I apologize. They changed the default on our mail server here at work to send HMTP enriched text format and the Rootsweb server won't accept that. They kept sending it back to me as undelivered to the group. The techs here then decided to change the default back so we've been trying it over and over this AM. I assumed Rootsweb meant it when they said it HADN'T been sent, but then I came over into my AOL account and found 4 copies of it. ??? Sorry Terry Littleton (listdad)
Hi all, he following query was forwarded to me from another list member, and since I don't have any of the names below in my databases, but I know there are quite a few of you out there that are from the 'Alabama Gang', I thought I'd forward on to the group. If anyone can help this lady, please contact her and CC the newsgroup so I know. Thanks, Terry Littleton (listdad) ----------------------------------------------- I know nothing about my Maternal Grandfather's family. His name was Max Leonard Littleton dates unknown except I do know he died in the 60's probably in his 40's or 50's. His parents were Oscar Littleton and Ada Gandy dates also unknown. I know I am reaching in the dark with so little info but I keep hoping these names will ring a bell with somebody. Most of our family lives in Alabama but I don't know if that's where he was from or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Stephanie C. Brown scbrown1@att.com

Jim, my smart Littleton cousin in GA sent me copies of draft cards for our ancestors. what a lot of information is on those small cards. The two sided cards are 4 1/2" x 5 1/2", issued by P.M.G.O. form No.1 (Red). I assume issuing department was Post Master General Office. a lot of personal information is included, physical charactistics, nearest relative, occupation etc., as well as registrants signature! For those who ask for source of information on WWI registration, this is the source from from the researcher, a Littleton cousin. "The WW1 registration cards for the entire U.S. are housed at theNational Archives Southeast region in Atlanta. They have the records of nearly 24 million men American citizens or not, born between 1873 and 1900 and who registered for the draft in 1917 and 1918.The records are filed by state and draft board. The full name of the registrant and his location or address at the time of registration are needed to search the cards. For example,I looked under the surname Littleton, Yell Co. Arkansas. I then looked through those cards until I found the persons I was hunting." Good job Jim. I know the information will be helpful. Marketta in Madera.
