    2. Hi Terry, et al., My check for $25 will be in the mail to Prof. Brian Berry tomorrow. Indeed, as one who's been involved with this project for a while, I can attest that it's worth many times that amount to anyone interested in the Littleton heritage. With "Listdad" Terry Littleton, I urge you to order your copy ASAP! Cheers, Scott C. 1. VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
    2. Hi all, It is with great excitement that I make this post. As a very few of you know, with the help of myself, fellow list member Scott Covington Littleton, Jimmy Reese and a few others, a fellow named Brian J L Berry was been working on a manuscript of the first 5 generations of Littletons in the Americas that are NOT descended from Col Nathaniel Littleton in Accomack Co, MD but from a John Littleton that was brought to Accomack Co, VA as a 12 year old child. I have sent small extracts of this manuscript to various list members to help with their queries, but the majority of you have never seen any of this or even known of it's existence. Well I am pleased to announce that the finished manuscript IS HERE. First a little background. Brian is a Prof. at the Univ of Dallas, TX and has been working on tracing the Littleton families for several years. What started as a conglomeration of unattached Littleton families in VA, MD, NC, SC, GA, etc, eventually became a well researched and documented linked tree. I have been privliged to see this manuscript in it's various versions as we all researched different aspects or areas of Littleton lines and forwarded the info to Brian, Each version was sent out to about 10 various people for review, correction, addition, etc. As with most research documents, it is FAR from done as there will always be Littletons that show up and attach to this tree somewhere. A prime example is the John Littleton in KY married to Martha Goddard. We are so close to attaching him to the other Littletons in Fairfax Co, VA it is scary. Just this last week, Brian found the court records on Ferrell Littleton that I posted to the list. Naturally, some of these most recent discoveries are NOT in the manuscript. AH HA - do I smell ADDENDUM??? Anyway, It is a great piece of work and contains about 100 pages, maps of property locations, TONS of documentation, wills, property deeds, children, relationships, etc, etc, etc. I could go on and on it is so well documented. Brian sent me notice today that it should be back from the printer in about 2 weeks. It is about 100 pages, 2 sided 8 1/2 X 11 with board back, clear plastic front and spiral binding. He came up with a cost that would cover printing costs, shipping and handling. He hasn't ask for any reimbursement for his countless hours of work, postage costs, research or personal expenses. He asked if I would post the following ad to the newsgroup. NOW AVAILABLE: JOHN LITTLETON of ACCOMACK CO, VA: HIS FAMILY AND DESCENDANTS This study provides comprehensive details of the first FIVE generations of LITTLETONS in America. To order your copy, send $15 to cover the costs of printing and handling to: Brian L J Berry 2404 Forest Court McKinney, TX 75070-4018 Tel (972) 562-1058 NOW, I have a favor to ask all of you. We all know how much a CD from FTM or a set of Cemetery books from any given county costs. And half the time you don't get much. I find the cost of $15 for this book to be the deal of the century and is definitely worth a lot more. Therefor, I would like to suggest that anyone who orders a copy of this manuscript, PLEASE send Brian $20 or $25 to show him your appreciation. This is MY request. If I can pay for this newsgroup each year just so we all have a valuable research tool available, I think everyone can afford a little extra for this great piece of research. I have seen this product, and believe me, it is well worth a LOT more than his asking price. If you have any questions, feel free to write me. Just DON'T write to ask 'Hey, is my ........ in there?' I don't have the time to do lookups in it for people. I hope everyone is as thrilled about this as I am even though you haven't seen it. If there is a piece of documentation out there that Brian hasn't found, believe me, it's well hidden. Terry Littleton (listdad)

    3. It might also be beneficial to look for an index of some sort. I ordered several death certificates from Alabama before I found out there was a death records index. They charge $12.00 for the search. If no death certificate is found you can't get a refund. But with the death records index you can know beforehand if a death record exists. 2. Well thanks to my posting Brians hypothesis, and the info several of you sent back which I passed on to Brian, he found the following and just sent it to me. Stay tuned - MORE TO COME. We're gonna find this sucker yet. HA HA But it's starting to look real promising that we know who he was related to at least. Terry Littleton (listdad) - ------------------------------------------------------ Farrell Littleton is listed in the Fairfax Co. Court Orders 15 times 1750-1758, principally as a losing defendant. In one case brought by Robert and Edward Maxwell, 'cousin' William3 Littleton was another of the defendants, and Charles3 Littleton bailed out yet a third, all of which reinforce links to John2 Littleton. Now I want to know what this was all about??? -Terry

    2. Pat, I think we've talked about this before, right? I have John and family shown TWICE in the 1850 Monroe Twp, Pickaway Co, OH census but the dates don't jive with what you posted. He is listed as 37 in 1850 making DOB 1813 Wife Eliza as 25 making DOB 1825. If he was 47 according to the IL 1880 Census, he would have been born 1833 and that can't be right because he was married in 1845 (12 years old)? I also have a few different names than you do. The TWO 1850 OH census records show: Mary M and Mary E 8 Julia R and Julia A 4 not Julian Sarah E 2 and Drusilla M 1 not Lucilla One census entry says place of John's birth was MD, other says DE. Thare is a large group of Littletons in Pickaway Co, OH that I would LOVE to piece together. I have no idea who John's parents might be without other info. Terry Littleton (listdad)

    1. More on DC search tip.
    2. I have had a couple people write asking about my tip on getting Death Certificates. Here is some more help. If you go to the web site for the county or state that you are looking in, there is usually a link to VITAL RECORDS. This usually will tell you what years the records are available for, when they started keeping them, when the state started requiring them be sent to the state, and where they can be found. This will save a lot of writting and calling. You might also look at the web site for your States Genealogical Society. That almost always has links to Vital Records. Have fun and good luck. 3. We have assumed that one set of Andrew Littleton Kerr's grandparents were Littletons. In every generation the oldest grandchild has the middlename of Littleton. We would love to know who's namesake this is. Andrew's father was James Andrew Kerr b.abt 1810 in Va. Andrew's mother was Martha Bell of Ky(her father Col.John Bell was b.in Va.and fought in the War of 1812.) The whole family lived in Missouri by the time Andrew Littleton Kerr was born in 1829. There just has to be a Kerr/Littleton or Bell/Littleton marriage around or just before 1800 in the Va./Pa. area. It could have been Martha Bells mother's maiden name, but we do not know her name for certain. It is speculated to either be Graham or Morris. Please let us know if you have this in any of your files.-------Karen Kerr

    1. Lige (Lidge) Littleton - and general research tip.
    2. Hi Welcome to the group. I looked but couldn't find any of those people. Just a tip and mayes others can use this: When looking for people from say the 1850's-60's forward, it is pretty easy to find their relatives and ancestors because from about that time (varies depending on county and state) on, death records were required to be kept. At some point, they were required to be sent to the State Vital Records office instead of the local County Probate Court or Health Dept. So if you know where and when a person died, it's usually a simple matter to contact that county or state and ask for a copy of the death certificate. It will tell that persons date and place of birth and USUALLY will name the mother and father and their places of birth. Then with the EXACT date and place of death, find out who in that county has microfilm records of the local newspaper obits. Those are extremely helpful because they will usually name the persons parents, place and date of birth, but ALSO the names of surviving siblings and where they live. Once you get all the info you can back into the mid 1800's, THEN the fun really begins. HA HA Let me know when you get back a few more generations and maybe then I can find a link. 2. Laurie
    3. Hi I'm new to the list! Thanks for telling me about it Ann!! I am trying to find some information on Lige (Lidge) LITTLETON. I don't have a lot of information on him. I know that he was married to Bessie TEEMS who was from Clayton, Rabun Co., GA. She was born abt 1909 and died in 1945. Lige was still alive then. So I figure he was born abt 1900 and died after 1945. At the time of her death they were living in Tallulah Falls, Rabun Co., GA. The had at least 2 daughters Stella born 1925 in Franklin, Macon Co., NC and Lorain. I don't know for sure where Lige was born but I suspect either Rabun Co., GA or Macon Co., NC. I sure would love a break through on this line... Thanks, Laurie jmlsray1@bellsouth.net http://lilieprl.itgo.com
