For MLittle3, Since your family has lived in the Jacksonville area,I wonder if you have run across any informatipn about a Solomon Littleton. He had a daughter. Adeann, b.1831 ( my Ggrandmother) and a son, Dexter. b. 1837. He married Betsy Webb in 1840. I would like info about Solomon before 1831. He was born in VA in1777, and there was a Solomon on the 1820 census in Swansboro. In 1840 he was in White Oaks Dist. and in 1850 he was in Half Moon Dist. I think he may have been close to Southy and Zachariah Littletons back in the early 1800s there in Onslow Co. I would appreciate any thing you might know. Juanita Long
I've lived in NC all my life (44 years) and I've never been to Littleton. There are also Littletons in NH, VT and our most famous Littleton right now--Colorado. One of these days I plan to visit our NC town.
Robert, You might know this but in case you don't , there is a town called Littleton, NC. Helen
Marty, sorry about the out of sequence responses but I answer my email in reverse order--guess that means I do everything backwards. I looked through the manuscript but can't find any references to Robert. The manuscript is a hodgepodge of census data, wills, marriages and war info on Onslow County LITTLETONs but most of it is prior to 1850. I'm trying to figure out how to scan the whole thing (46 pages) so I can email as an attachment for interested parties. I don't think this would infringe upon any copyrights. I didn't know there were LITTLETON graves on Ocracoke, the only large sites of LITTLETON graves I knew about was at the Primitive Baptist Church in Richlands and at the Swansboro Cemetary. Robert
MLittle3 I looked through my Onslow data and couldn't find any of these people. But I'd sure like to track them down. We are doing a lot of research in Onslow but these are totally new names. Do you have an exact death date and location for any of these people? Then we could try and get DC's for them and track them back. Terry Littleton (listdad)
Thanks Terry. Also thanks for telling everybody about the manuscript on John Littleton. It was fascinating and helpful. Robert
Didn't think to get a death certificate. All I got was the coroners record. Bud
Bud, See what happens when you don't work on a line for a good while? Besides it was Friday after two weeks off work. I was not reading straight. HA HA Anyway, I have Hugh as being BORN in 1824 and his parents as Sarah and Hugh Littleton. Now where I got this Hugh as being a father I don't know. I must have seen a Sarah married to a Hugh somewhere. I'll go look at OH stuff and see if I can find it. We know Hugh died 31 May 1901 in Loraine, Adams Co, IL . There are a LOT of LITTLETON in Adams Co, IL. Why don't you try contacting some of those descendants and see if anyone has any old family records, bible, etc. Have we tried to get a DC on him from there to see if it lists his parents names? If he died in 1901, that county should have a DC. Terry

I didn't read what you actually said in your message. You said you have Hugh dying in 1824. You also say you had his father down as being Hugh. Maybe we've all been overlooking something. Perhaps you are right, the father Hugh died in 1824, the year our Hugh was born. That would make Sarah a widow. Now if you or someone could figure out why you have Hugh as the father. Bud
Terry: I hope you intended to say you have him as being BORN in 1824, not dying that year. The only thing that mentioned various possibilities for the father was the letter I got sending me the other papers. Bud
Hi all, I just wanted to send out a "line" and hope somebody bites. My ggrandfather was John Dodson Littleton (b. 29 Sept. 1878 Virginia?-d. 15 Sept. 1954 in Indianapolis, IN). He married a Cora Moyer. I am stuck in a black hole trying to find out any further information on this part of my family. The oldest member on that side of my family still cannot get me any further back. Any fill-in's out there? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Thanks, Travis Childs kdchilds@earthlink.net
I have him dying in 1824 and I do have his war unit listed. I think we went all through this last year but I don't remember the part mentioning various candidates for father. I do have the records about the indentureship. For some reason in my file I have his father listed as Hugh also. Don't know where this came from or why? A real puzzle, huh? Terry
Terry: I forgot to mention that this indenture paper makes him to have been born in 1824. Did we have a discussion about the date? Can't remember which way we went on the date. Seems I had him down as about 1815? Bud
Terry: Nope. No mention of a father, only saying it could be any one of a half dozen or more. Did you not have the papers showing his being indentured at the age of 5 until he would be 21? And it was with the approval of Thomas Littleton. I was also given his military records. Perhaps I should check somewhere to see if there was a pension application. Bud
Robert I forwarded your e-mail to her and asked her to please contact you if she isn't too swamped with the flood restoration work she has been doing. I'm pretty sure she will write you. Let me know if you don't hear from her in a week or so. Terry
Hi all, Someone sent me this web site address and I thought I'd share it. MANY times I need a death cert from some distant city and wonder how to get it. THIS might be of great help. It's people that live in different places that have volunteered to do lookups for people. Just pick the state, then the county. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm Have fun - Terry (listdad)
Hi Travis Like I said in my tip earlier today, for someone that has died that recent, it should be a snap to get a copy of his Indiana death certificate which SHOULD show his parents names and their places of birth. Check there first. Terry (listdad)
Bud, I worked a lot last year on this exact thing when we were talking and I never did find out anything more on this Hugh and Sarah thing. Sounds like you found something more though. No mention of a father though huh? Terry (listdad)
Terry, can you get me together with the lady from Onslow County who has Tucker Reed Littleton's research? I'm trying to tie my gggf Southy (b. abt 1819) to one of the Littleton's there. I believe he might have been the son of Thomas who subsequently moved to Georgia but I don't have proof. I have reviewed a manuscript my Mrs. Roscoe Taylor (1985) that was in the Onslow County Library but couldn't find any information on my Southy. Robert Littleton
