HI again, Is there anyone of you that still lives in Fleming Co, KY or knows someone there that can look up things in local records? Or maybe someone has already done this with no luck. John Littleton b 1760 in Loudoun Co, VA married Martha Leanor Goddard also from VA John Littleton died in 1836 in Sanford, Fleming Co, KY and is supposedly buried in the Mt. Vernon Cem, on Mt Vernon Rd, in Goddard, Fleming Co, KY Now since the town is named Goddard and he was married to a Goddard, I would think he or his wife were well known. In 1836, there MIGHT be a death cert or notice in Fleming Co or with any luck, an obit in the local paper. Has anyone tried looking for these items or maybe a mention in a local history book? What I'm trying to find, is a mention of his parents names back in VA. I know our tree says his father was a Pherrel Littleton and his grandfather was a John Littleton, both back in VA. I am trying to link them back to my VA stuff but I'm having no luck. You would think Pherrel would be a fairly easy name to find, but NO. Thanks for any help Terry Littleton (listdad) Terry
Thanks to all that had the CD's to look up Lorenzo for me. I did get some new info and a new county to look in. Also, anyone who is descended from OHIO Littletons, I'd love to discuss them with you. Maybe we have something the other doesn't have. Terry Littleton (listdad) Terry
Terry, Well that didn't work. At least the one that I got back from rootsweb. The attachment was 971KB and may have been too big. What I received was the message I sent and a whole bunch of garbage following it, but no attachment. Looked like a WWII coded message on History Channel. Hi all, Well we only have 14 profiles that have been sent in out of the now over 60 subscribers on this newsgroup. That's now a very good percentage. If you want included, please take the time this week to submit it to NEGates@prodigy.net (Nancy) I'll wait until the first of next week and then ask her to post what she has to the list. Red Humphrey and Stephen of Holbeche both have a generation number of "4", so this must make them 1st cousins. John of Hagley and Humphrey were brothers, sons of Gilbert, 1st son of Sir John of Frankley; Stephen was son of George of Holbeche, 3rd son of Sir John of Frankley. >husband had just died in the tower of London. What I find interesting, is >that their son Thomas who was Sheriff was mentioned as taking part in the >roundup of the conspirators if I remember right. I think there might be some confusion here: Sir Henry Bromley was Sheriff of Worcester at the time of the Gunpowder Plot. He was closely associated with the rounding-up process, and was in charge of the search at Hindlip House where Father Henry Garnet and Father Edward Oldcorne were found to be hiding. He was the brother of Muriel nee Bromley who had married John Littleton of Hagley Park, and was known to be a staunch Puritan. He was also apparently a kinsman of Sir Richard Walsh, who directed the attack at Holbeche House. Sir Henry wasn't lily-white himself, as he had been implicated along with his brother-in-law John Littleton in the Essex Rebellion. But despite this, by the time 1605 had come around, he was politically and religiously on the other side of the fence from his in-laws the Littletons. There were apparently many cases such as this, where the religious divide resulting from the Reformation resulted in families being split in two. >I'm sure there are a few mistakes, but it does seem to put Humphrey and >Stephen in their proper place, which DOES differ from the Gunpowder Plot >stated lineage. OK, I copied this outline from FTM and pasted it here. As we have been discussing the past week or so, it doesn't come out just right, but if you paste it into a word processor and just indent based on the generation number, it comes out fine. This tree was composed from a copy of the family genealogy tree that was sent to me by a fellow subscriber of ours that he got from the family historian at Frankley House in England. It supposedly was a copy of the family tree hanging on the wall there. As you'll notice, John Littleton MP and Humphrey were brothers and Sytephen was the son of another brother. This would make Humphrey and Stephen Uncle and nephew. Therefore Muriel would have been Humphrey's sister-in-law who's husband had just died in the tower of London. What I find interesting, is that their son Thomas who was Sheriff was mentioned as taking part in the roundup of the conspirators if I remember right. Humphrey wasn't married it appears so that might account for his being at his brothers house. I'm sure there are a few mistakes, but it does seem to put Humphrey and Stephen in their proper place, which DOES differ from the Gunpowder Plot stated lineage. Funny, I was just looking at their new URL this past week and was going to send them a copy of this too. If you find any discrepencies, please let me know. Hello from a new subscriber, I'm trying to sort out the family of Sir John LITTLETON of Frankley. Information gathered from various sources gives a very confusing picture. The sources I have looked at to date include the following: (1) Spink, Henry Hawkes, "The Gunpowder Plot and Lord Mounteagle's Letter" (London 1902) (2) A e-mail message sent to me by RAH Williams, containing descendancy information apparently taken from "Burke's Peerage" (3) Edwards, Francis, S.J., tr., "The Gunpowder Plot - The Narrative of Oswald Tesimond alias Greenway" (London, 1973) To start with, Spink (1) says the following on page 172: "At Coventry, Robert Winter was joined by Stephen Littleton, of Holbeach [sic] House, in Staffordshire ...; and also by his cousin, Humphrey Littleton, brother to the then late John Littleton, of Hagley House, Worcestershire, who had been engaged in the Essex rising." Burke (2) says something quite different, that Stephen and Humphrey were brothers, not cousins: my information gives three sons for Sir John Littleton (c.1518-1590) of Frankley: 1. Gilbert (b. c. 1540) 2. George (b. c. 1544) 3. William Gilbert had 3 sons and 1 daughter, including John Littleton (b. c. 1561) who was the one involvd in the Essex rising. George had 8 sons, including Stephen of Holbeach House (executed at Worcester 1606) and Humphrey (also executed). Following this, Edwards (3) says something different again on page 132: "George Lyttleton, second son of Sir John Lyttleton of Frankley (d. 1591) 'married Margaret, daughter and heir to Rich. Smith of Shirford, Warwickshire; his eldest son Stephen settled at Holbeach House in King's Swinford, Staffordshire; was executed on account of the gunpowder plot, and left no issue. His 8th brother, Humphrey, was likewise executed for harbouring the powder consiprators at Hagley': T. Nash, Worcestershire, vol. I, pedigree at p. 493. Thus Humphrey and Stephen were uncle and nephew." So now I'm totally confused. Three different sources give three different relationships for Humphrey and Stephen: (1) Spink says that they were first cousins; (2) Burke says that they were brothers; (3) Edwards [after Nash] says that they were uncle and nephew. Which one should we believe? I have a problem with Burke: after John Littleton M.P. died in prison in 1601 after his arrest for being involved in the Essex rising, his widow Muriel continued to reside at Hagley House, but there seems to have been a close association between Hagley House and Humphrey, as Humphrey seemed to be in charge when Stephen and Robert Wintour dropped by after being on the run for two months. Had Humphrey taken over Hagley House as his seat by this time? This might imply a closer relationship between John and Humphrey than between Humphrey and Stephen, discounting the account from Burke. I'd appreciate any detailed information anyone could give on the children and grandchildren of Sir John Littleton, to try and clear up this particular mess. Terry, One way you can do this is to add a printer type that matches the recepients printer as a print to file printer. Then you need to define this to FTM. Then use the print button to print to the file. When the recepient get your print file, they should be able to print it using the PRINT command. Other thoughts deal with formating as a PDF file and accessing with ACROBAT reader. If you have Data Junction you can copy and change format fairly easily. OK, First thanks to everyone that offered help on my report question. BUT, I must not have been real clear on what I am trying to do. You have Family Tree Maker and you generate an OUTLINE REPORT that is sitting on your screen and is maybe 5 or more pages long. I WANT TO SEND A COPY OF THAT REPORT JUST AS IT IS, NOT a file of those people to someone by e-mail somehow. Several ideas are close. The copy and paste to WORD or to the e-mail itself works, but the line and carriage controls get screwed up and the lines tend to get run together. It's not neat down the left side with generation 1....... 2........ 3....... 3....... 2........ I wasn't able to get screen print to work. I'll keep playing with ideas, keep them coming, if I get it figured out, I'll let ya'll know. Terry Littleton (listdad) Terry
To do screen prints with WIN95 you can press Print Scrn then paste this into MS WORD; or MS PAINT and save as a BMP file. Thanks to everyone that replied with ideas. Here is what I've found. It seems copying the Outline Tree on the screen and then pasting it into an E-Mail, KINDA works. I did it from work (IBM mainframe with microsoft exchange mail) to home and it didn't work. Got the e-mail with nothing in it. Then I sent it to Scott Littleton in CA and he got the outline report, BUT the lines get all jumbled together and is a real pain to read. This was from my AOL. Then I sent it to myself at work from my home AOL and it came through OK, but still had the lines concatenated. If you spread out the e-mail window as big as you can, that helps, but some lines you will still have to indent. I'll keep playing and let you all know if I find a sure fire way to do it. And yes, I have tried printing it as a file but that doesn't seem to work (or I'm not doing it right) either. Terry Littleton (listdad) Terry
Terry, Hello again. I have FTM ver 5, but that should make no difference. I'm not sure what 'Outline Report' you have on the screen. Are you just wanting to send that one screen or the whole report? If you are sending an Outline Descendant Tree and want to send the entire report, try this: Click 'File' Select 'Copy/Export Individuals in Outline Descendant Tree'. A window pops up. Save under a new name, (whom ever the Descendant Tree is of.) You can save as *.FTW or as *.GED file. Go to your email letter and attach as you would any attachment. I did this using the *.FTW format and it worked fine. I opened it in FTM. I did this by sending myself an email with the attachment. If you just want the first page and no others, I copy it using 'Copy text' and place it in my word processor and then delete the part I don't need. Hope this is clear enough and works for you. I have Outlook Express for my email and Microsoft Works for a word processor. If none of this is of no help, try Family Tree Maker online. Go to the Message Boards and find the Question catagories in the lower right of the page. These are monitored by FTM support staff and you may get a quicker answer there. http://www.familytreemaker.com Sincerely, Jim Clanin claninjasue@email.msn.com

I recieved some info from a man on this list regarding some LITTLETON ancestors a month or so ago, and shortly thereafter my computer crashed, and I lost all email. It was concerning Ullysus LITTLETON and Noah LITTLETON. If he could contact me again, I would be very happy! YOU KNOW YOU'RE TAKING GENEALOGY TOO SERIOUSLY IF ... *You are the only person to show up at the cemetery research party with a shovel. *To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked all of your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. *You were instrumental in having "non-genealogical use of the genealogy room copy machine" classified as a federal hate crime. *Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. *You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and the U.S. Postal Office immediately laid off 1,500 employees. *Out of respect for your best friend's unquestioned reputation for honesty and integrity, you are willing to turn off that noisy surveillance camera while she reviews your 57 genealogical research notebooks in your home. The armed security guard, however, will remain. *You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. *During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. *The most recent document in your "Missing Ancestors" file is a 36- page contract between you and Johnson Billboard Advertising Company. *Ed McMahon, several t.v. cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, and the first thing you say is, "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?" *"A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader." *A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1890 census be restored.
