    1. [LOEW] North Wales
    2. Wendy Archer
    3. I've been contacted by Jennifer Lugus, who has set up a group for North Wales: https://groups.io/g/NORTHWALES "This mailing list is for family and local history researchers with interests in North Wales. It has been designed to replace the Rootsweb Caernarfonshire mailing list and includes the current counties of Gwynedd and Clwyd and historic counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Merionethshire." I've invited Jennifer to join the GGOEW group (Genealogy Group Owners for groups relating to England and Wales). She says: "Our group would welcome any of your members interested in researching in North Wales counties." If anyone wants to make contact with Jennifer, I can pass on a message. Wendy

    1. [LOEW] New URL

    3. Just a nudge to remind listowners to enter their New URL, be it at groups.io or elsewhere, onto their closing RootsWeb list. The box is at settings, List Identity. Wendy

    1. [LOEW] "Behind the scenes on the mailing list" - early 1998
    2. Wendy Archer
    3. Whilst overdosing on the early archives of my RootsWeb lists, I came across this post by Rod Neep, early list owner of the Gloucester list, forwarding from somewhere, probably the listowners list, a post by Brian Leverich about upgrading the list servers of the time. It's from January 1998. The disk sizes, and their costs, are a good reminder of what a crazy plan getting RootsWeb off the ground was! https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/gloucester.rootsweb.com/thread/13913716/ But it's led to 2 decades of great fun and friendships! 1. [LOEW] Mailing lists transferring to Groups.io - Information for Rootsweb listowners
    2. Jeff Coleman
    3. As you may know, there is a group on Groups.io specifically for migrating Genealogy Groups from England and Wales from Rootsweb to Groups.io This is https://groups.io/g/GGOEW and you can subscribe by sending an email to GGOEW+subscribe@groups.io Copy and paste so you don't lose the + sign There is also a more general group for migrating from Rootsweb to Groups.io This is https://groups.io/g/Gen-listowners and you can subscribe by sending an email to Gen-listowners+subscribe@groups.io Copy and paste so you don't lose the + sign There is a list specifically to help listowners on Groups.io. This is https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum and you can subscribe by emailing GroupManagersForum+subscribe@groups.io Copy and paste so you don't lose the + sign. It is a very very busy list with lots of emails, not all relevant to someone migrating from Rootsweb, but it has very good help section on its wiki, which you don't have to be a member to read, with a link on the left of its homepage. They have just added extra info to their wiki: https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Moving-to-Groups.io Jeff

    1. [LOEW] Every little helps - putting new URL on RootsWeb
    2. Wendy Archer
    3. RootsWeb has introduced a facility whereby you can use your old RW admin pages to add the URL of each of your replacement lists or groups. See New URL on the right at https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/oxfordshire.rootsweb.com for an example. To do this, go to settings in your admin area, and it defaults to opening on the List identity tab, which is what you want. Enter the new list or group's URL, and don't forget to press Save changes! A good enhancement! Wendy

    3. Dai - That had me puzzling - especially when it looked as though somehow I hadn't sent you an invite! The answer is that you subscribed by email at 18:30 just before I sent out the invitations. So you didn't get an invitation because you were already subscribed!! 3. You can edit the standard welcome message. (How to is in the wiki page I think) Subscription needs approval. Then I THINK you have to reply individually to each request to ask for more information.
