Can anyone tell me if I am alone at British-Jewry with this issue or if it is everywhere? Is there anything _I_ need to do? This digest contained ONLY emails from me that were in plain text and went straight through to the list. I have sugested she swaps to individual emails. Please see below. Sherry Landa (23170 Viersat) Owner of British-Jewry (and other lists) My lister says: Sorry to be a pain but since the update two out of three digests come in a continuous running text format which make them virtually unreadable. The odd one comes as it used to - formatted into individual posts - it may be a problem with the digest form - I haven't tracked whether the ones that are OK just have a single posting. This is what she received: Send BRITISH-JEWRY mailing list submissions to [email protected] To subscribe or unsubscribe via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [email protected] You can reach the person managing the list at [email protected] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of BRITISH-JEWRY digest..." We have received some money and have some more awaiting arrival. We are very grateful. Anyone who still wishes to contribute can do so by contacting [email protected] Over this last weekend the following have been achieved: Colin's item about Chelsea's Jewish Cemetery has been added to the South East page. Jeremy's information about the British Dental Association has led to the creation of a new Medical page (under People: Work) and his information about “Weekly Casualty List (War Office & AIr Ministry)†has been added to the Military page in the same section. Gina's Dutch The Gravestone Archives & Gravestone Photographic Resource have been added to the Graves page. Additionally, the software used by the Leeds Database has been upgraded and installed (I am yet to see what this does exactly). Still to do are: Ensuring that the contact us links work so that people can get in touch with us. (We are awaiting our provider to solve this as it has now been ascertained that it's a technical issue, not my human error.) Small additions to the surnames list and removal of some duplicates. Checking for broken links. (We have just got our provider to add the IP needed to be able to crawl and check for these.) It's being trapped. It APPEARS that some of you re using HTML. I am not sure that you are but I need everyone to help me out by making sure that you are using plain text, as required. Additionally Avast footers are creeping in. Firstly, we don't advertise for any one anti-virus programme and secondly, this could be the HTML that is the issue and then when people answer it perpetuates. Here's how to stop that: 1. Open the Avast User Interface (Double click the orange splat in the bottom right notification area of the task bar.) 2. Select Settings from the left hand menu bar. 3. Select the General topic if necessary. (It will probably open on that one) 4. Somewhere on the page it will have a check-box labelled "Enable Avast email signature". Uncheck it and job done. On the new list tools I have 3 options: accept (sends mail to list HTML and all); discard (bins pending mail and you never know it didn't make the list, unless you have "me too" set in your options and get your own messages back) and reject (the option I would normally use for this). I can NO LONGER edit this option. It means if I reject you get a message but I believe it will just give you "n/a" as a reason. As a result I have to email each person privately to explain. At the moment I am (supposedly) on holiday so it's do-able but once I get back to work next week, it's going to become impossible. It's going to mean loads of trapped emails piling up and my patience will dwindle and I'll just be binning or rejecting en masse and you will all be frustrated. So, please post making sure you have DEFINITELY used plain text and DEFINITELY NOT allowed any anti-virus or other advertising footers into your emails. That way I can test what the issues might be and seek a resolution before I restart work. Thanks for your understanding.
