I took a look at the thread. What I would do is 1) put the entire list on moderation until the dust settles, 2) declare an end to the topic, 3) put in removal requests for all the offending messages in the thread, myself, and tell the list that everyone who gets the resulting email to confirm the removal request, and 4) put the individual offenders on permanent moderation.
