I have a subscriber claiming he uses gmail, so doesn't see and can't control the amount he backquotes. I've never used gmail. Is this true? Diana
No. I use gmail since it was started. ---> But using gmail on phones can be tricky deleting. Its simpler to start a new message and put a part quote of what you reply to rather than just reply to the existing message. This reply is sent to my OE from my gmail and I have all the same editing as any other message this way, the ones sent to my Samsung can be edited by holding the finger in the message till the arrow shows and scroll it to remove or copy the highlighted text. Gmail in web mail is easy to edit almost like pop mail. Some times in some cases, its just simpler to make the new reply and quote your part your following. So its what I do is just ask folks to make a new message and quote the topic in reference. I have a Gmail account, but I don't use it for my Rootsweb email, because (personally) I -like- having the previous posts/threads attached. It makes it much easier to follow a discussion. It's all self-contained in one email. I realize I'm in the minority on that (or appear to be), but, I'm okay with that! :-) -David Reed List Administrator: MAINE, NEW-ENG-GEN, MELINCOL (Maine, Lincoln County), ME-IRISH, CEMETERIES-HISTORIC-PRESERVATION, MARIN --------------------------------------------- "Actually, there is only one 'first question' of government, and it is "How should we live?" or "What kind of people do we want our citizens to be?" - George F. your settings can do just that. make a folder, for each group. make a filter for the group to the folder make a filter to send a message * in the TO* line as you sent it TO the group to the folder. I am using OE 6 to pop gmail, it works great, been doing it since g mail started, but I do not, have g mail pop setting set up only to allow pop, but I set the OE to download g mail with out loging in at all and I get it just like OE always works with all filters and folder options working and gmail filters spam great. Once you have gmail to OE< thunderbird or what ever you prefer, just make the filter to send your reply to the folder, then its all there. Just some simple tweaking. If you want the gmail settings they are on the gmail help site. pop.gmail.com smtp.gmail.com and use the settings for the rest if you get lost let me know I can send screen shots. The self contained disappears in OE separates each reply.
