Very Odd. All are now on moderate, thanks to the > information provided by the LO List, > > PSW
What a great way to harvest e-mail addresses! Subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible and then collect all the subscribers' addresses from received mail. A simple program could be written to do this without actually having to read a single message. Furthermore you never have to *send* a message so moderation doesn't prevent this. Beware for what the future portends.... Cheers! -- Dave -- David Naylor, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. ---
You could do the same quite easily by using the lists archives Why doesn't it happen on a grand scale? To much work as your suggestion would be, there are easier ways so why would they make life difficult for themselves ? Seems like there are some paranoid people out there Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > What a great way to harvest e-mail addresses! > > Subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible and then collect all > the subscribers' addresses from received mail. On 8 Mar 2012 Nivard Ovington wrote: > You could do the same quite easily by using the lists archives WRONG!! -- addresses in the archives are obfuscated so need decoding. -- how mechanize downloading archived messages? -- archived addresses may no longer be valid -- spammers pay more for known-active addresses. Obviously it can be done using the archives but not "easily" and certainly not better than using live messages. Cheers! -- Dave -- David Naylor, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. ---
