    3. Hi All, I haven't commented here in a long time, but in looking at the RootsWeb entry page for requesting a list I see I can request: ) Surnames ) Localities (Counties only) ) Miscellaneous They want you to input the requested list name and a description of it. This looks very much like Message Boards that allow: ) Surnames ) Localities ) Topics So please explain and differentiate the words Miscellaneous, Topics, and Projects. Looking at Topics on Message boards there are tons. I'm just trying to figure out what a project is and why you can't get permission to create a list for it. Is it that "project" implies something that "topics" doesn't? Who cares? If someone wants to create a list to share ideas that is somehow related to Genealogy why would someone else want to prevent their sharing? How about this project: Restoration of Old Stone Fort Historical Museum and the expansion of research materials about the period 1840-1900 including information about the people who lived there. What parts would not be allowed? The funding and reconstruction of a building? What if this mentioned who were the movers in shakers of getting the funding or doing the construction work. RW or Ancestry would have no idea about the depth of information or whether it will actually connect to genealogy until after the list goes into use. If the above project list were allowed, and I don't understand why not, then wouldn't it just be up to the facilitator to decide if posts were or were not on topic? If I had the project and you wanted to list new books about Texas that have been acquired at a library in California, I'd say this request to list your books is off topic because it has nothing to do with Old Stone Fort or the Nacogdoches area. However the poster would complain that it does have to do with TX. That is why the facilitator of list gets the big bucks and has to make these decisions. Am I missing something here? Why are projects not allowed but Miscellaneous and Topics are allowed? James R. If the listadmin is found to prevent, restrict anyone from outside listadmin's project, the list can be taken away, once the complaint is filed and investigated by RW. The policy has already established for years governing the lists having NO variations of genweb in the mailing list names. 3. Project lists in this case are for organizations that have something to do with genealogy. I requested a mailing list for a personal project of mine years ago and was denied the list and advised to use the state/county list that was already available. It makes sense.
