    3. This query is purely to satisfy my curiosity and nothing else, but what is the "CSV Export" button for? It is located at the top of each list subscribers listing, but I have never clicked on it out of concern that I might cause a problem (again!), but now I am curious enough to at least ask. ???? I am trying to learn as much as I can about the List Owner tools provided to us, but a few of them are not very obvious. David E. Cann [email protected]

    3. It will export a list of all subscribers into a format you could put into an Excel spreadsheet. Totally fine for you to do. Be warned though, Ancestry takes the privacy of its customers seriously, and if anyone were to download a list and make the list public in any way or sell it to anyone they would be removed from the Mailing List system immediately and banned for life. And David, I don't think you were asking that, I just wanted to be clear. :-) Excellent question! Anne On Fri, Apr 6, 2018 at 8:51 AM, David E. 3. Thank you Anne, I appreciate the quick response and explanation. Now that I know what it is, I do not see where I will use it in any real way, but you never know what the future will bring. As for the security cautions, this old retired (35 years ago) Marine understands security concerns all too well and will keep them in mind. Thank you again. David E. 3. It just produces a one-column Excel file of an alphabetized list of all your subscribers' email addresses. 3. Why is this list _allowed_ to be downloaded? Perhaps this is a candidate for removal? Banned for list, etc. is obviously _NOT_ something that would matter to whomever exported all those addresses and then gave them away.

    3. Can't see any reason why we need to be able to download members info. Should be enough just having the membership list for moderators On Fri, Apr 6, 2018, 9:31 AM Constance Chappell Horne < [email protected]> wrote: > Why is this list _allowed_ to be downloaded? 3. It is a reasonable thing to remove actually. The only real use I can think of is if we combined a list. 3. Trying to think about the glass half full - shouldn't need the CSV Export button If I were a glass half empty person I would use it if there were major problems and the lists weren't available for a period of time! :-) And yes, I had downloaded all of my lists and subscribers a few years back - updated now and again - and I was able to contact them, let them know what was happening, and they became involved in a temporary list I set up in the meantime - specifically for those that wanted a Mailing List and weren't happy to use only Facebook. With the lists back up and running (glass half full hat back on again) - it's a chance to contact those who were regular Mailing List users who may have bounced off the lists and let them know that we have Mailing Lists again and do they want to get involved. Obviously a number have since changed their email address but with regulars you can often find their new email. Some Mailing Lists subscribers become like family and you see them popping up elsewhere - they appreciate the contact. So benefits of a CSV Export button ... definitely Yes! My two pennies worth ... As others have pointed out, User IDs, User Names etc. are not always obvious, but I couldn't count how many times somebody like [email protected] was trying to unsub, and being able to see the subscribed list of emai addresses helped me to identify what email Mr. Jones had actually used when s/he subscribe. I vote AGAINST removing the option to download subscribed email addresses. Pat A.

    3. If the CSV download contained more detail than just the email address I would agree with you but it doesn't You can change the view of subscribers to 200 per page So its relatively easy to go through them and easier than downloading a separate list IMHO Of course a subscriber list as we had would be better with at least name and email address Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 06-Apr-18 11:07 PM, Pat Asher wrote: > At 05:53 PM 4/6/2018, Susie Zada wrote: >> Trying to think about the glass half full - shouldn't need the CSV >> Export button > > I have to disagree that a CSV download option is not necessary. Going through them 200 at a time is neither easy nor practical when I am looking for similarities. With an excel file on my computer, I can alphabetize, search for a partial string, etc. Pat A.
