It's been brought to my attention that the post to which I replied earlier concerned a MASS posting to HUNDREDS of lists of the same identical post. Obviously a mass posting of this nature and scope would never be relevant to each of the lists where it has been posted. So while I stand by my earlier reply, I want to emphasize that I was thinking in terms of a conference announcement that might be relevant to a few counties like the posts I sometimes get for my central PA lists. The key is still specific relevancy...NO announcement is relevant to HUNDREDS of lists and should only be posted once or a few times to lists where there is specific relevancy AND with permission of the admins of those lists. Hi folks, aren't we beating this one to death a bit? Mass posting is never OK, and not helpful either. While it would be great to get the news out to *every* person who might find it useful, our lists will never function that way. Remember, our role as listowner of our lists isn't a position of power, but responsibility. The better we keep our lists on-topic, the more useful they are to the subscribers.
