    3. Gen-Events? news to me! list admin of 20 and never heard of it and I have been around since the beginning of the lists. How many subscribe to that list- Bet you 99 percent do not subscribe to that unheard of list. I prefer such event be posted to many differrent relevant lists than locked to an obscure list many never heard of. All subscribed are interested in hearing about events anywhere in the world. And I'm aware that the Cumberland Gap event is pretty big, with people traveling long distances to participate--I know someone who came from Europe last year to exhibit. Maybe Gen-Events should be publicized more, so it gets more subscribers (I have no idea how many are subscribed, though I am myself), but the right forum for this kind of post DOES already exist on RW... > > Claire > > > > > > On Feb 15, 2013, at 1:47 PM, Nelda Percival wrote: > >> ...I have always wondered why there isn't a section to addressed this type of posting on rootsweb. >> >> Maybe, even a letter that goes out to the societies/groups that might would / could organize such a get together... it might even cover reunion notifications. > ... > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to LISTOWNERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. David, I've been actively administering different lists since 1999. I've never heard of it.. I'd much rather see the words "Event Notice" like I wrote to Pig...This list's admin. Most people don't use half of what is available, but at least something on the HOME page might get seen and NOT OFFEND - List admins and STAFF. A person (Staff or volunteer) could be in charge of the listings, and how they are worded.. thus not mentioning cost or breaking rules... Did you know there is a list where you can ADVERTISE YOUR BOOKS...for sale, Rootsweb has about everything... feeling a little better taking meds nelda Nelda L. On my lists, any message that makes an explicit connection to the list topic may be posted with no fuss and bother -- after *or* before posting. The message does not have to be dead centered on the list topic, but the connection has to be clear. For example, an announcement about a French Canadian genealogical conference, held in New Hampshire, would be on topic for the VERMONT list. Most Vermont researchers know that the Quebec-Vermont border might as well not exist, genealogically; and one can drive from any place in Vermont to anywhere in New Hampshire in less than 250 miles. But I would gently remonstrate with the poster if they sent it to the VTORANGE list. The specificity of the latter demands a closer connection be made. Darrell

    3. I've heard of it. ;--) I thought that part of an admin's duty was to recommend to confused posters where it would be proper to post certain types of messages. I also thought that cross posting was a no-no? I took the time to look through all of what lists were available so I was familiar with what was available even if I was not a subscriber?
